building your own box isnt as simple as 1,2,3

some things u have to take into account

Box type: Sealed or ported?
Box size: This is really important when building a box in this case SIZE DOES MATTER

Materials: 3/4in MDF is a must, a big box of screws, and lots of liquid nails.

building a box is much harder then you would think it would be its a lot of work.

i can use some advice too, building an enclosure for my new sub.

What's this software everyone uses to help? My sub has recommended like 2.5 cu feet. and sealed enclosure. I don't know what to start with, yet materials (and a guy helping me out who knows how to build stuff pretty well). I need ideas.

It's an eclipse 12" titanium. What do you think craig? I'm pretty interested in tony's design, but it does look really involved. I just want a good sealed box that will do the trick, and tuning it to the woofer specs given.

You don't have to use liquid nails. From what iIve been reading, regular wood glue will work just fine. Also, don't go crazy with the screws. The screws just holds the pieces in place until the wood glue sets.

[QUOTE=craig10114]Materials: 3/4in MDF is a must, a big box of screws, and lots of liquid nails.[QUOTE] Screws are optional. I just a biscuit joiner to help align the panels, Tightbond II glue and clamps. That way I can chamfer or round-over the edges without having to worry about my router bit hitting a screw.

I use UniBox. It's an Excel spreadsheet.

No recommendations on box sizes but I do like subs built by TC Sounds. Excellent sound quality. Yours should sound great in the proper inclosure.

once it doesnt rattle and has enough internal volume for the sub, then it should sound fine.

i don't think the shape matters as much as the actualy area of the inside of the box.

any links or info about the relationship between a volume of a box, a particular woofer, and the low end frequency yielded as a function of the volume directly?

What do i need to know here in particular? Ii think i can handle figuring out the volume, but i don't know what would sound well, or what in particular my concerns should be.

Thanks.

well, each sub will have recomended box volume from the manufacturer. you can download programs like winisd and enter in different variables and it'll give you information on how the speaker will respond.
