5.1 audio in a 4th gen

Hey guys, I'm lookin to set up a mobile theatre in my max. I have the 7" screen in dash and am planning on installing two 5" screens in the head rests. I have sony xplod 220 watt speakers replacing the stocks, I was given an 8" bazooka sub. I'd like to know how and where I could put a center channel speaker in the dash. I'll pick up a 5.1 amp, but I wanna make sure I can get the center channel in without breaking too much stuff. Has anyone done this? any suggestions?

Crazy

Crazy? we're all a bit crazy in some way. I don't mind the 4.1 sound but that extra front speaker would finish off the theatre sound I'm looking for. It's great for getting out of shopping with the wifey or family. Just stay in the car at the lot and watch a movie.

With the screen in-dash, there aren't any pockets. the only other place would probably be the change pocket next to the cig. lighter. That's too small for anything. hmm...

Buy a used dash from a junkyard. I would cut the used one up. Build a small enclosure just below the clock. I have seen it done in other cars and with patience can look great.

Good luck.

There is a Panasonic 1 Din DVD player that comes with a speaker in it. You just open it up and you got your center channel plus dvd player in one.

What you could do is fabricate a mount and install the speaker behind the screen in the center of your dash. Then in the trim peice on both sides of the screen cut out square conver them with acustical coverings they use for speakers, and now you have a hidden center channel that will still sound good. The only problem with this is it would bring your sound stage really far down. You might be able to combat this by installing a tweeter in the air vents or up on the dash a little more.

That HU was a good idea, but the speaker is so small that it doesn't have enough output for a center channel. A 5.25" or 6.5" mid that has plenty of output down to 80 Hz is the best way to go. With movies, most of the important sound comes from the center channel.

You have 3 DIN spaces in your dash. Do you have a flip-up monitor or a fixed monitor? Do you have other pieces installed in the dash? Do you have a pic of your dash setup?
