help i think my headunit froze
ok so todayaround 2:15 i was going to work. i started my car and hopped in and i went to raise the volume a noch and the thing didn't work.i looked down and saw nothing on the screen. but i still heard music and the headunit flips around and that worked as usauall. so i my headunit frozen? or what...for tonight i have the headunit sitting next to my computer is this the right move???...will it work tomorrow?
Specs Kenwood kdc-716s headunit
i looked through the owners manual online and found that about 40F is when the screen becomes unreadable.
Heres the manual. The headunit is kinda old.
ftp://docs.kenwoodusa.com/manuals/OM...-2001-KUSA.pdf

does the cd load and you cant see the display, or the unit is dead?
if you cannot see the display, LCD has a problem at very cold temperatures, so that may have been the problem, although taking it in the house would have taken care of that. it is *possible* it got too cold for the circuitry in the LCD/LED panel, but the only way to yell will be to take that face plate to a dealer (best buy, circuit city, etc) and connect it to the same stereo, and see if it works.

monday when i got into my car the headunit didn't work but i could still hear the cd playing...and i was not angry at that i just assumed that it was because of the cold wheather that we where having. so i tried to pop the headunit back in and out. this is when the cd stops. so i get out and go to work for 2 hours and come back hop in my car and the cd works again but still nothing from the headunit. so i bring the headunit backinside over night to see if that would help
tuesday i get in again but this time earlier and i get no cd and no headunit. i get out and 2 hours later i get back in and i get the same. i go to work 2 hours again and i get the same thing. get out and i get the headunits backlight, so i decided ohhh what the hell lemme see what happens if i hit reset, so i tried that and then the headunit goes out and still no cd.
see i would do that cept the headunit is mad old and i doubt they have it. i think tomorrow ill leave the faceplate on over night and see what happens, or ill have to ask my mom if i can park my car in the garage......i really don't want to do this...
does this happen to any of you guys...along with what headunit does you have...i might just buy another if i have to...
ohh ya this headunit came with my car, so i have no idea how it has been treated, and what happens in the winter, i bought the car in july,i did a carfax and it shows that it was basicaly always in boston, i think its much cooler up there, so why would i have the problem down here...

it's not the weather, its the headunit itself my kenwood kdc x717 just crapped out on me too. the face just keeps folding up and down, none of the functions work. just got a older kenwood mp3 play for now, but planning to get old unit fixed using this guy on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW
