Last year for xmas, I got my sister a remote starter for her xterra, Not impossible but complicated,

Have to always leave car in gear or something, cost about 500$ to get her a customized remote starter....Dont know all they did, but I think it was kinda complicated.

Took it to an advanced audio or some aftermarket audio shop...

Sorry for lack of deatils..

sorry @ work, can't think straight....Had to always leave the truck in neutral, with the emergency brake in place (obviously), so she could remote start it....

With a max, atleast a '02 you have to do the whole thing with getting another key, so they can install it under your hood.. The eltronic chip has to be close to your engine or something like that....back to the grind

what you need is a trasponder chip permanantly mounted in the vehicle, a remote trigger for the cluch relay, and you need to remember to ALWAYS leave it in neutral. there are fail safes for the neutral thing but they are pretty complicated and expensive.

Yes, very possible...If you are a DIYr then you might want to PM "studman". He has done extensive documentation on the install procedure. I think it's on his web site but I forgot the site's name.
Good Luck...

u can install an remote start on a stick. But u need to bypass the clutch and ur car must in in neutral at all times when u use ur remote start or ur car will go foward even if u have parking brakes on. If u have no or even little exprience on alarms, don't install it urself. You u end up ****ing it all up. I know someone that does alarms and remote starts for like $50 or less and does perfessional jobs but this ****ing dude will make u wait for like 3 month before he have time to install anything.....He custom mounted and fiberglassed 2 TVs for my previous car for $40 Total.....it woulded costed me $300 something at the shop he works in.

Why would one need a remote start anyway?

I have a Compustar remote starter. DO NOT INSTALL ANY AUTO TRANNY REMOTE STARTER ALARM INTO A STANDARD. It can easily be done, but man the risk of starting your car in gear is brutal.

My car has a manual reservation mode to ensure the car remote starts only in neutral.

I have it done.

You need to connect the nuetral safety wire. PIN #44 ecu, green/white.

If the car is in gear then it wont start.

As for the clutch, there is a harness at the top of the pedal. Cut the 2 wires and splice them together.

There is a safer way to do that. The remote start module has an "output when activated" wire that will send out a ground signal. You tap that wire to pin 1 of the Clutch Interlock Switch (not the black wire, but the other one) located just above the clutch pedal.

There are 2 switches located above the clutch pedal, so make sure you get the correct one. One of them will have a Light Green/Red wire and a Gray/Black wire. That is the wrong switch. Use the other one. The other one will have a Black wire, as well as another color wire. Tap the colored wire to the remote start's "Output when Activated" wire.

If done this way, in addition to the pin #44 wiring, the car will remote start as normal. However, using the method I posted, you cannot start the car using the key without engauging the clutch. Using Igor's method, you could start the car without using the clutch. This could be bad if the car was in gear and was started using the key.

If you ask why you would need to do it this way,... there are a few answers:
1) It's the correct, professional way
2) It's the safest way
3) You may not always be the only driver of your car everytime, and that other person could forget to engauge the clutch.

Ive installed dozens of them.

Car will not start/move when left in gear.

Immoblizor bypass goes under the dash not under the hood 'near the engine'.

Price is in the sig for Viper791/Clifford Matrix RS3.5

That how I installed mine. I also installed a pin switch on the clutch to shut off the car if the clutch is ever pushed in without the ignition key turned to the on position.

Definitely agree. And no one in their right mind is going to tell you where they placed the brain. That's not a very smart idea, especially on a public forum such as this.

And if you don't have a clue what all this means, please let a professional do it. If you are in the NJ/NY area, Pearl96Max is VERY VERY highly recommended as an installer.
