Well, if it works as well as the music channels on DSS, I'll get it. I've always wanted to have those DSS music channels in my car. You have to get a new HU that can receive the signals, though.

to the best of my knowledge they're not on the market yet. was reading car audio & electronics last issue and that's the impression that I got. It is still in the development stage and there are only 2 companies that are out there to handle the programming for it. Kenwood is supposed to be making this type of radio, but according to this article it is about as highly gaurded secret as fort knox. Also, once again from the way I read it, this is gonna be a system that you have to subscribe to. kinda like cable or dss, in order for you to receive the programming.

Most of the big companies are developing HUs for at least one of the formats (XM and Sirius). One of them already started broadcasting, still doing beta tests. The other starts later this year. It's only $10 per month, and it's commercial-free, so it's totally worth it. Plus you get to hear all kinds of new music that you wouldn't normally know about, instead of listening to the same CDs over and over.

The advantage isn't as clear for me, given my setup. I already have zillions of MP3's and can listen to what I want when I want.

HOWEVER, the compelling point you make is that I'd be exposed to new stuff that I wouldn't ordinarily listen to or have in MP3 format.

Hmmm...

Wonder if I should wait .. wonder if Alpine is planning adding XM to their multimedia stations...

Yeah, plus they'll have exclusive stuff like live broadcasts of concerts and interviews with musicians. Then there is the talk radio choices that will be available, for when I don't feel like blasting music. It might not be for everybody, but I'm interested in it.

Sony has a unit that is going to be plug and play from your home to your car. That's got me interested. I just wonder how much the cost is going to be besides the monthly fee.
