Down Firing Subs??

Looking for some opinions on using 2 - 10" Type R's in a sealed enclosure firing down in my trunk (approx 4"or 6" off the trunk floor). Proceed.....

I know home audio subs are sometimes built with that concept, but I have rarely seen it in a car. This would be located in the trunk, right? I don't know how it would sound. It's worth a try, though. Build a simple down-firing enclosure just to see how it sounds before you go all out with it.

i think the floor at home would be harder, so in result it would sound better, i don't think that fireing subs downward would sound good for the car......i dunnno but try it out, i am curious aswell

my buddy always does this in his truck but when i asked him if i could do it in my car he didnt recommend it. he says that you need a hard surface such as the metal floor in a truck not the flimsy cardboard thing in our trunk. he also mentioned that you usually only do this when the speakers are actually in the cab of the vehicle such as a truck or suv. thats just my 2 cents though.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the JL stealthbox fires down. The thing with this is that it sits in the front left corner of the trunk, so it's sitting over metal, not the piece of cardboard that goes over the spare tire well. I've heard one of these in an other org members cars, and I was very impressed with the sound, especially for a single 10.

Think I'm going to try it. I'll just build a plain ole' box and the add some stacks to it and test it. I'm actually replacing the whole floor of the trunk and plan on using some plywood or MDF. So it might be alright! I'll update this thread when I get it done. Thanks Everyone.
