Rear-view camera installed.

Well, I've installed the rear-view camera for a few weeks now and since I am receiving request for pics I thought I might as well post them in the forum. So, here are some quick pics of the rear-view camera I took back when I installed it. The camera is 105 degrees purchased from millennium-lab on ebay for $62 shipped. Since it's not a night-vision camera, you must have some kind of light source from behind while driving at night in order to see anything. (eg. street lamp or car headlights). The camera was a little bigger than the existing key hole so I had to dremel it out some. I put some touch up paint on the now exposed medal for possible rust issues but noted that the camera gromit actually covers it up so that there shouldn't be any problems. (Just playing it safe I guess.) Make sure once you remove your lock from the trunk that you tape down or tie wrap the lock tampering switch. If you don't, your alarm will not arm since the BCU will not receive the proper ground signal from your trunk trigger. All in all, it was a very easy mod that adds some bling to your ride. Those that already have a LCD should think about getting one of these cameras.

Good luck driving on the street at night with that on your monitor. I have it as well, but cant use it at night because all i see are ppl's headlights. Its nice during the day though...

the black ring on the outside of your camera will rust. The paint will come off within weeks so be careful

How do you open the trunk, with the power release only now? Is this camera for backing up? I've never been broken into but I prefer to disable the remote trunk release, meaning the key must be used to open. Guess it's a city thing.

Nismotic: I haven't had any problems with rust and its been several weeks. I'll be on the lookout though so thanks for the heads up. Also, I don't really use it at night just sometimes in the day. This is more of a bling mod in my case. Although, it does allow me to see cars that were normally in my blind spot.

Frank Fontaine: I use the power release for opening the trunk. You can just mount the camera some place else if you want to do this mod. Off the top of my head you could cut a circle in license plate and mount it behind there and route the wires into the trunk.

I saw that mod in a MKIV twin turbo supra at a car show. It was also right in the rear trunk lock. Best part was he was showing a video of the car whooping another car on his in dash TV.

I30_DRIVER: The power for the camera is wired to a switch so that I can activate it at will.

caudio51: I have the camera video out connected into my external DVD player. This means that I have to turn on the DVD player in order to view my camera. I will change the setup to use a A/B video switcher once I find a small enough one to fit inside my armrest without taking up the entire space of the armrest. The ones that I have seen are still too big since I use my armrest to store other things.

Irishmax99: I normally use it when back up into a parking space so that I don't get curb rash on my wheels.

Thanks for the props guys.

It's more satisfying to just look at it and figure it out on your own since this is what I had to do. If you really want to know then I will try my best to describe the process. Once you have removed the retaining taps, fold the carpet/liner back. You can now see the lever arm and locking cylinder. They are connected/held in place by a "U" shaped clip. You must push/pry it out in order to disconnect the lever from the locking cylinder. Once completed, unsnap the lock tamper switch from the locking cylinder. You can now push the locking cylinder out of the keyhole. Now, uncrew the bolt connecting the lever arm to the trunk release. Congratulations, you have now dissembled your trunk keyhole lock. Remeber to to tape down/tie wrap the lock tamper switch so your alarm will still be able to arm itself.

Kolyan: IMHO, I don't think it's a totally useless mod. It allows me to view the cars in my blind spots for quick lane changes but to each his own.

I dunno.. living in a city area, with street parking only, a rear view camera would help to squeeze into tighter spots without using the time tested method of "*bump* oh **** now i'm too close"..

millennium-lab must have just started selling the night vision camera at that price. When I bought mine, the cheapest keyhole night vision camera was $159 on ebay. I didn't feel like paying double the cost just to be able to use it at night so I went with the normal one. If the night-vision camera was available at that price a couple of weeks ago, I would have purchased it instead.

Looks good man, at HIN Charlotte last year a guy had a 350Z that had cameras mounted where his side mirrors were, and a tv on each side of the steering wheel to show him what they picked up. Good clean intall in the keyhole. Daddy like.
