I tried a search for this but came up with nothing. Anyway, I want to add a MP3 player to my car. I know I have a few options on how to go about this but need some additional info. I already have an aftermaket head unit that's maybe a year old and not installed on the Max. It has a million functions with a remote, etc. I want to be able to use that instead of buying a whole new MP3 playing unit. How can I go about hooking up a computer to this head unit I already bought? Would it be worth it or should I just get a new head unit that will play MP3 encoded CD's and sell this Alpine that I have now and forget about the computer idea? Thanks for any info.

You can hook a full computer up to it if it has a video-in. Does it have a screen? If not, you can make something on your own (like use an lcd and remote) but it gets complicated.

You can also get a portable MP3 player and pipe it into the head unit via aux-in or even a tape adapter if you want to keep it simple.

It has all the bells and wistles

It doesn't have a screen but it has a video connection and AUX connection. So I can get a LCD screen from ebay, a portable MP3 player and hook it all together? What size LCD should I get and will that screen display the MP3's playing?

Sorry for all the questions but this is not my specialty but I'm trying to learn. I'm somewhat knowledgable in car stereo's so I can wire everything myself and find compatablity but I haven't really looked into this MP3 thing as much. Thanks.
