single or 2 subs???

just a general question about the size of subs. i want a pair of subs in but don't want it to take over all the trunk space..any one have pictures of 2 12's in thier max? and do you think it is a bad idea just to get a single 12?

its never a bad idea to get just a single sub if you want to save space. Theres no harm in only having one sub, you end up saving space and money, you just wont get as loud.

h2's can burp harder than a xxx but brahams and re sound better. there's so many out there. i CANNOT wait for SI to come out with the new magnums. that's probably the only way i'd get rid of my solos (i mean i'd trade my solos for plenty of subs but actually taking the time to resume work on teh car....must be special you know what i mean)

a single 12 will do fine.....i might go with 2 10s for my new system, but i am planning on fiberglassing a box to the side of my trunk.

Good decision going with one sub if you want to have a good amount of trunk space. I had a Solobaric L7 paired up with a Kicker KX600.1. I think this setup was pretty loud for a single sub. Here is a picture of the way I had it installed:

ah that reminds me, sealed boxes are generally smaller than ported ones....just something to keep in mind. my ported box takes up half the trunk.

1996maxblack that looks like an L5..no? 12" looks like, that'd be 600watts rms, perfect matchup considering it's sealed

Actually it is a 12" L7. It is the first series of L7's that Kicker came out with. They went with the gray cone ones later, and finally the current one with a shiny cone. It was rated to handle 750 watts RMS. The KX600.1 I had pushing it came with a verification certificate stating it was putting out 740 watts RMS. This combo did get loud.

^^ i totally understand. i actually didnt think it was a first gen square L7 cuz theyre just so rare. i only see the grey and new ones... seems like the first L7s were like teh first L5's (cuz the l5's came out when the L7's went grey) and then the L5's now are probably as good as teh old L7's (i'm talking out of my @ss but i bet it's a close bet)

I'm goin' single 12

I'm putting in a single 12" Kicker CVR within the next week. My installer recommends a custom sealed fiberglass box, built into the corner of my trunk. Has anyone else done this? What is your sound quality like? I'm powering the sub with a Kicker 700.5 amp. 4 channels to power my Alpine type R's in my doors and 1 channel for my sub (sub channel puts out 400 RMS). I can hardly wait.

I have 1 12" Orion H2. Love it...wanted 2, but couldn't fit 2 n my 4th Gen trunk w/o losing a lot of trunk space. I have always liked having a 1 high quality 12" that will put 2 12's to shame. I think u will b pleased with 1 12", I know i am.

ok, heres my opinion. i have 2 12" orion's in my trunk and I blew one of them the other day so I had to unhook it until it got fixed, so I only had 1 sub running and I hated it, go with 2 12s, you won't be disappointed.

Were The Orions In One Big Box, Or In Their Own Separate Enclosures Within? If They Were Both Sharing Volume, That Is Why The One Sub Sounded Like ****.

it really depends on what sub. large xmax on a good sub can compensate for the fewer cone area (up to a point.)

power, box size and type, the sub, can all make a huge difference. i can make 1 8" sub sound louder than a 12 if i want to. although it is easier to make a 12 sound louder than an 8.

if you have the money and trunk space, why not get 2? i plan on getting 1 jl w7, which is plenty for power. it comes down to what you have and what you want

they were in a single enclosure, it didnt sound like crap, it just didnt sound as good as 2 subs, haha. it sounded good and hit nice when i was listening to rock, but if i threw in some rap, i just was not getting the power i wanted. i got my new sub yesterday and i threw in some rap real quick, ahhhh, i love it. like kevdog said, GO BIG OR GO HOME.

Which Orion subs did u have?? They must have not been H2's. Must have been the P-series or C-series, or maybe an older model like an XTR. I think what eveyone is trying to say here is that if ur gonna buy some cheaper subs ($100-$200/per sub)...get 2, but 1 higher priced QUALITY 12" would sound better if matched with a nice big box.
