alright the time has come where the Bose isnt enough for me. I just ordered 2 Infinity Kappa Perfect 12"'s, now I'm looking to get a pheonix gold amp but dont know the exact one, i'm looking to spend under $500, what are some good choices? Also how does the bose system compare to the infinity kappa perfect component speakers (w/tweeters)? I dont know wether its necissary to replace the bose or not. Please reply with any helpful info, thanks

Congrats! The Kappa perfects are the best speakers we(Infinity) make. (I work for Harman). Pheonix Gold makes good amps, but your best bang for your buck, the JBL BP1200.1. It's a 1200watt mono block and its one ohm stable, did you order the dual or single voice coil subs? The JBL amp is a perfect match, if you run both subs the amp will see a 2 or 1 ohm load (depending upon voice coils) and each sub will get 600watts rms. Peak on the amp is 1378.1 watt @14.4 volt. I had PPI's and replaced them with 2 1200.1's and 2 180.2's, pics coming soon! You can get the amp at Circuit City for about 700 bucks, a Pheonix Gold with that much power will cost you way more. As for the Kappa Perfect components, the are killer! You should replace the O.E. speakers when you can afford it. The are going to need an amp to power them as the are components. The factory system is going to be completely rewired to by-pass the Bose system. But if you install an amp you'll be running new speaker wire anyway. Any other questions feel free to email me. P.S. If your interested I have the PPI's for sale, 9 months old Chrome! Maxstilln@hotmail.com

Did you get the SVC version or the DVC version? You should definitely replace the Bose stuff; not only will it break soon anyway, but decent aftermarket stuff sounds way better.

Methinks you are looking at the Phoenix Gold XC 4300. That is the only amp that I could think of by them that could probably be under $500.

As far as the Infinitys go, they are perfect (pardon the pun ). As Micah said, you would definitely have to rip out the Bose and replace it.

The JBL 1200.1 can be had online for less than $400 if you look hard enough. Or you might even consider an MTX Thunder 1000D, which can be had for an even cheaper $373 from www.sqaudio.com
Great choice on the subs, they are the same as mine

phoenix gold amps suk for BASS, go with either a Kicker or Rockford Fosgate amp, you will 10x happier with the power output compared to PG. The only thing PG in my car is the power cables, and battery terminals, thats all they are good for. my .02!

If you go Rockford, get the Power series as opposed to the Punch. I just listened to the Power 250.2 and the damn thing actually blew me away with clarity.

Other amps I would consider are Precision Power, Orion, Kicker, JL Audio (yes, they now make amps).

Um PG amps do not suck for bass. I've got lots of experience with many amplifiers and I firmly believe PG to be as capable as any for power delivery in bass applications. Maybe you were using an underpowered amplifier for the situation?
