Passport 8500 old? obsolete?

K guys ive searched on here for awhile tryin to find answers but cant seem to get any. I just got a great deal on the escort 8500 NOT the x50. Is it a big deal that it isnt the x50? Im wondering if the cops have updated their radar or anything? anyone with info please let me know!

i'm using the 8500 as well, not the x50. the difference i believe is a bit longer range, and have pop radar detection (which not many people use at the moment).

btw, you might want to make your sig pic a bit smaller before the sig mods hassle you about it.

I don't know about where you live but I think pop radar is more widespread than you think. I am almost positive I have been hit with it in both AL and MS - usually the last 2 states to get any new technology. I also came across a couple speed trailers that would not set my old V1 off (no pop detection) and a friend of mine got a ticket in MS w/ pop radar. I would upgrade immediatly to something with pop detection.

Just bought this one....and plans on being my last one. paid 175 for it!! awesome price with a 2 year warrenty on it as well, from what ive been told, its bascially a marketing ploy (and with myself having a marketing degree) can understand the theory. While i do understand that new radar always evolves, I compare this to the motorola v400 and the motorola v600 w/bluetooth. It is just an added feature, basically telling you to hurry up and spend more money on our product!!! I highly doubt all police are into the pop systems.

K i keep trying to look at the online manual but it freezes when i open it. I guess all I wanted to know was when you choose either C, H, or A, city , highway,....what does a stand for and when should it be used??

in highway mode, the sensativity for x-band is normal. in city mode, x-band sensativity is reduced to lower false alerts. i haven't messed with auto mode yet

It only messes with x-band? I thought it was more sensitive in all bands in highway so I leave it there all the time and just put up with the falses (which are always x-band). If it's true that it only decrease x-band sensitivity maybe I'll put it in city or auto.

from what i see on the manual yes, it only mentions lowering the sensativity on the x-band. i switch it to city while in town and back to highway for well...highway cruising

the highway setting has all the band sensitivity back to normal. you might get a bit more false x-band alerts though.
