Hey,

Has anyone tried these sound dampening mats from Parts Express?

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshow...=268-020&Did=7

They are very cheap, a 32"x54" sheet for only $18. Shipping starts at $10, but I think you can probably get a couple of sheets for that much.

I know they probably aren't as good as dynamat, but the price is hard to resist...

Actually I think it is as good as the cheapest non-asphalt polymer dynamat. I've used other generics and my wife recently used some of the parts express generic. I think it's the cheapest stuff around, but nat a large quality difference. There are some roofig materials that can be bought in the northern states however that would probably be cheaper, but they come in 3ft wide by 100 ft long rolls. Johns Manville and Owens Corning both make the vinyl roofing sealer/underlayment without gritty surface but as I said above the version w/out the sandy grit is only sold in the northern states.

Dude, don't buy it from parts express...
www.mcmaster.com has the same exact sheets for $12.79 per unit. Or if mcmaster doesnt have it in stock, you can call parts express and see if they will do a price match.
They did for me
BTW: the mcmaster part number for the same unit is 9709T18
good luck.

Thanks

Thanks for the tip regarding mcmaster.com! It is so hard to navigate their site unless you know what you are looking for.

So SWEETSOUND2001, you are satisfied with the quality of the material?

Yes. I was pretty happy with it. However, i found another material that works very well also. There is a seller on eBay that is selling it for $69 per 50 sq. ft It has excellent adhesive and it's also foil backed. It sticks so well that you don't need a heat gun and if you accidentally touch it, your fingers get stuck to it. Anyhow, the sellers name on ebay is "Raam"
Also, i'm currently sound deadening my max also and i have a webpage deidcated to that. here it is. It should help you a lot.
Good luck

Back to the original post... I covered my entire car in 2 layers of that stuff.. (5 or 6 rolls actually) the trunk has 2 layers all around.. the rear deck has 3. the doors each have one on the inner and outer door skin.

Seems to work fairly well, but for the weight added, I'd think there's some better stuff out there. at 10lb/roll, it's not cheap on the performance end of things.

I got my best results in the doors by gluing a layer of 3/4" open cell foam on top of the dynamat stuff.

And you WILL need a heat gun & roller for this stuff. (hair dryer & leather gloves work, but heat gun & roller are best)

Have fun!

There is a gentleman on the Elite Car Audio forums that has a busines, and was selling 50 sq ft of the aluminum backed. for $59 a roll, or $54 a roll for multiple rolls until the end of April. I have spoken to him and he is a really nice guy. Here is the link:
http://forum.elitecaraudio.com/show...?threadid=20355

Now that deal is over, but I'm sure it's still a good price. What I like about it is ,It sticks like superglue. No heat required. The most adhesive stuff I've seen yet. Another nice thing about it, is it has almost no smell. I just did my trunk and back deck with it, and now it's on to the doors....
