Save more money. You won't get anything good for UNDER $400.

Are you SERIOUS?! Have you even looked at the price of these units? If you want to pick one up you will spend a MINIMUM of $1400 alone for the unit.

The best of the best? Eclipse AVN2454.

I use my pocket PC. If you have a palm pilot or pocket pc, it's an extra 150$ for GPS part of it. Works good, voice guided, 3d maps, points of interest, etc.

Portable?

I was just wondering if getting one of those "set and go" portable navigations was a good idea. I found a good one for $999 on outpost.com. It has voice guided turn-by-turn, touch screen, 5" screen, points of interest, but not voice activated. The maps can be downloaded to it from your pc through usb. It can run on batteries or can be plugged into the outlet. I was thinking it could be a good investment, I can put it on top of the counsel in front of where the clock is on the dash (on to the center ac vents). Anyone have any suggestions as to whether I should buy it? Is it worth it? I mean I need one, but I don't want to mess up the counsol by having put in a factory navi or one of those dvd/navi players cuz everyone I know will do such a bad job that the dash will rattle like they did in my I35.Please get back to me. Thanx

I highly recommend the Garmin 2610. I had the 2620 which had the built in maps on a HD. The 2610 uses CF cards for map details. Before that, I had a Streetpilot III. I think Garmin makes the best portable GPS units out there.

I had picked up a magellan roadmate 300 for $300 a month back. While it did the trick for $300, there were a few bugs here or there. I concluded that if I was going to put my sole trust in something, it should cost more and be bug free. In the end, you get what you pay for. I've heard good things about the garmain nuvi and the tom tom units.

So Eclipse AVN5435 or Rainbows and PG Amp? :P Those nave systems are beautiful, would love one, but I guess audio ends up being my first priority.

Out of curiosity, Crutchfield keeps saying it wouldn't fit in my dash, but it's DD isn't it? Just need a kit for it to fit?

I wouldn't use the Eclipse enough to justify it...Audiophile over cosmetics for me Plus, i'm 17, shouldn't be spending that much on a car deck anyways

Well I want to do more than the 15 RMS of it, but I have a system already. Was going to upgrade to a PG amp and Rainbow speakers. Which i'm still gonna do, because that's all $720 as opposed to $1400

I am pretty sure that you cannot even compare the "stock" basic navi system on the 2005 Maxima to a way superior unit from Eclipse or even Pioneer Avic-N1/N2 which costs less than $2k for sure!

How much did you pay NISSAN for your stock, OEM navi system? I bet it was not cheaper! The NAVI option for 2005-06 Maxima is $1800+ Not cheap for a limited features unit.

Gotta agree here. Stock Navi..costs more and offers less. No two ways around it.
