I just recently got my hands on a '91 SE with the Bose system. When I use my Minidisc (with a tape adaptor), I can hear this "cracking" noise coming from the speakers - it sounds like sparks shooting out at random. The higher the volume, the louder the crackling. I tried another cassette to see if it was the tape adaptor that was causing the noise, but I didn't really hear it then (but that doesn't mean it wasn't there!) Has anyone heard of this problem??? Do i just need a new tape adaptor?

does it only happen with the MD adapter?

if so, then that is probably the problem. If you have it crackling on all sources (radio, CD, ect) then it is the speakers. You can get better speakers which cna handle more power so you can play louder w/out distortion. Or just try turning down the bass on ur speakers, which is commonly the noise.
