I have a 98 I30 and was wanting to replace the stock stereo with an indash monitor unit, however I don't really care for the motorized flipouts, was curious if anyone had any experience with any double-din stationary type monitor units, I'd like it to look somewhat stock. If anyone has any suggestions on a good brand, or has one that they particularly like, tell me about it. Thanks in advance.

Aside from that the main factor is Eclipses supior quality,3 yr warranty and theft replacement coverage...

No, I'm not insulted or anything. When I bought my DDX7015, there was nothing else in the market. Eclipse didn't have the AVN out yet. In any case, the Kenwood has a 2 year warranty and they don't have the theft warranty, but then again no manufacturer has that except for Eclipse. The specs on the Kenwood are *slightly* better. Also, the Kenwood's fitment is better on the 5th Gen than the Eclipse. Another orger has the AVN on his 5th Gen and it has this large gap.

slightly better specs? ure gonna have to elaborate.

Im gonna agree here and wait for the response to the better specs.
Also when comparing and saying theyre both the same price, please compare Retail to Retail. The Kenwood is quite a bit higher.
Please also fairly compare the current AVN as the Kenwood is still current. Very unfair to compare old with current. Even tho the older AVN would still prevail.

Eclipse has a lower preamp voltage (0.8v) vs the Kenwood (2.0v). Also, the Kenwood has a more pixels (336,960 vs 280,800) which results in better picture quality.
The Eclipse goes for $2200, right? Not including the discounts you give to us Orgers. The DDX is $1200 and the Navi is about $800. That's retail.
I can only compare what's available on Eclipse's web site. If that's the AVN2454 with no mention of the new model, then how can I compare?

Actually wrong. Eclipse is 1.8V, not 0.8 The first digit of all Eclipse HUs represents the preout voltage. The last digit represents the year. Please also show the impedance of the Kenwood as Voltage is really of minimal concern if resitance is still high. Current 2005 AVNs are 5V. H3ll Thier entry level CD players start at 5V
No actually the 2454 is about $1899 as of last pricing update.
The site is gradually being updated, so no its not on there yet, but fair is fair to compare current to current right?
Hey, relax there, Don.
We always seem to be arguing the same argument about the DDX and the AVN.
Not sure about Kenwood specs because it's not as readily available as Eclipse. I"ll have to look at my manual at home for specs.
As for pricing, is that your pricing or general pricing because searching the Internet, that's the average price I've seen.
Also, personally, I like separate items rather than combo units. What if one function is busted? You're stuck with it. Sorta like having those combo VCR/DVD TVs. If one function breaks, you're stuck with it. With mine, if the navi breaks and it's out of warranty, I can just get another unit without having to swap the entire thing.

I'd have to agree with max5spd, I prefer separate components for exactly that reason, something breaks, you don't have to replace the whole thing. max5spd, can you tell me, from your unit, does the Kenwood support XM or just Sirius
