Alpine or Eclipse?
Hey guys, looking into buying an aftermarket HU and changing out the bose in my 02. gonna be pushing hopefully diamond audio components and coax, but not sure about the amp yet. anyway, im thinking about either the eclipse cd3434 or the new alpine cda9851. anyway, just looking for some advice.
Eclipse without a second thought. Although why the older 3434? Why not the 5425 or something a bit higher and newer? Cost will be the same if not less. For '05 All Eclipse HUs offer 5V/55Ohm
I've had eclipse and alpine before. I like eclipse for it's pre-outs and it's laser but, I've always had problems with them. I recently swapped out my older 5v eclipse for my 4v alpine 9815 and the alpine sounds alot better even with the weaker pre-outs
Get an alpine 9835, 9833, or a 9815 and look on ebay for good prices.
I thought the 05 eclipse hu's went up to 9v pre-out.
Nevermind it looks like a only couple hu's are 8v and the rest are 5v

well i do have an eclipse amp, but thats for components. i do believe you on eclipse cuz ive seen alot of highend systems with it, especially some stuff on your old max i believe? and conrad has a nice eclipse system, and so did playero. The reason i got alpine is because i was sick of all the garbage hus i had so i wanted something, and i am very happy with it.
as some one mention before with an alpine hu, fawk the rest bells and whistles are for the birds
my brother runs the cd3434, great unit w/ clean sound out of the box- however it has ZERO DSP and he got an in dash external parametric EQ with it
I agree into looking into the higher line models in '05s lineup(5v)
- if you like the older look a 5444/8454 has no equal in the price range IMO- I love my 8443

I just recently started to like eclipse more than alpine. I do like the style and the user friendlyness of the alpine but I think the sq is much better on the eclipse. Alpine can be used with the ipod. Does eclipse have something comparable to alpine's time correction? (I think they do)

ALPINE ALL THE WAY - I'VE OWNED 4 ALPINES , AND THEY GIVE OUT THE CLEANEST SOUND. ONLY REASON WHY I WENT THRU 4 WAS BECAUSE EVERYTIME A NEW MODEL CAME OUT I WAS ALL OVER IT! Alpine has always been of great quality, even the one Eazy-E got stolen from his '6-4 ( six fo'). I've never had any problems with any of the alpine products i've used as far as hu's. hope this helps - peace good luck

Have you ever actually owned an Eclipse for comparison?

I guess I cant say that I have owned Alpine. I did own an amp for about a week, then went back to my 4 channel. As far as head units, I am biased by saying Eclipse. Good clean stuff. Nothing but high end for me!
