Subs on a Stock Bose?

Is it possible to hook up an amp and subs to the stock bose unit, without having to change out the speakers and all?

very possible, not the easiest thing to do but definitely can be done

tap into the rear speakers with a hi/low adapter; go to a car audio place to get the right one.....mine is by Db Link

Before this gets moved to a forum where you'll never find it.

Yes, it can be done. Find a good mobile electronics shop, and buy an amp with remote gain control.

Just buy a rca converter and hook it into your speakers.

no dont get a basslink, just get a hi to low adapter. Or you could as Don and you could just splice the rear speaker wires and run rcas from there

my rear speakers cant handle any bass anyways, so i guess it'll be a good thing that they lose some power

I'm gonna go to best buy, and get subs/amp/installation for under 200...probably not gonna be the best speakers, but it'll have to do.

Hmmm.. yah the bose system sounds excellent, but with a sub, 10% better than it already sounds. I would like to do it soon.

Most amps have what's called speaker level inputs. You can just tap into the rear speaker wires and connect to the amp. I your amp does not have speaker level inputs, you can use a line level converter.

Are you referring to Best Buy?

I also want to add just a sub to my stock Bose (for now). How much will a decent sub/amp cost me? I'm not interested in block-rocking bass, and it seems like subwoofers don't need to be super high quality because it's just bass. What's a good small/medium sub + amp setup? With an Optima Red Top and stock everything else, will I need a capacitor?

And your shop is better with people who tell you Alpine > Eclipse. I dont think so. I would put my Circuit City install up against any custom shop's install.

Yes he was referring to best buy. CC is generally known for better installs than BB...Ive heard horror stories of BB people taking cars and doing donuts, etc. But thats besides the point.

No you will not need a cap, and theyre almost useless anyway. A decent sub in a box will probably run you 150ish, a decent amp a couple hundred, wires 80ish, and install 50-70. Just guessing from knowing CC prices.

Lets not get cocky now...you make yourself feel better by beating up on us kids?

lol jfwy, ill give you that, but come on you do have a 12 extra year advantage.

I can never truly tell at work how long stuff takes cuz I always get interrupted with retarded customers. And ill stop to do a few radios in between as long as theyre F150's and take me <1 min lol.

And then when I do stuff on the side Im usually not trying to hurry because theres no boss there to get on my @ss and no annoying customers so I just relax and maybe do some work if I feel like it.

Not cocky, just honest. Not picking on ya, you opened the door by saying better than any other shop. I just figured Id call that. Its all in fun anyways.

Civics depending on the year should be about 45mins...

Hyundais blow monkey nuts, doing the HUs anyway. Pain in the ballz for such a cheap simple car.

Lets just make it fair and use a Bimmer or Benz...I dont do a Ton of them, so that should be more equal.

good luck finding a bimmer around here that goes to CC for installs, or anything car audio in general. i think you scared him with the 1.5 hour 791 install.

Much rather do a bimmer than a Benz...my dad used to have a 1990 525i, and Benz's suck worse to begin with. Besides my dads car which was kind of my first car, Ive only done one system in a bimmer at CC...radio, 4 speakers, and a bass tube in a 325i convertible, and I said screw the factory stuff and ran new speaker wire since I had the entire car ripped apart anyway.

Rich, you cant even install your own radio. No room to talk smack

Don, our ongoing contest at my old CC store was a radio and 4 speakers in an F150?...My asst manager there did it in 23 minutes. My CC store blows, its gainesville, theres nothing good here, so it gives me good money for now.
