avalanche 15 box progress!

im 80% done i just need to put the top on later today. building the box was more frustrating/longer than i expected but im happy so far. its not perfect by any means but lets hope it gets the job done. dimensions are 40x12x17 tuned to 35. the pix are not good but you get the idea.

Cool! What are you using to power it? Did you try to fit it in the trunk yet? 40w and 17h seems like its gonna be tough, or are you firing the sub up? I know I wouldnt be able to get it in my 4th gen. Are the 5th gens that much bigger opening wise?

DEI 750D. a modest 600 watts @1ohm. yeah i finished half of it before coming back to school from spring break and it fits like a glove (without the top on). however with my 1/2" plywood in the trunk it will rub the seatbelt ***her in the rear thus not letting it go all the way back. so im going to have to remove the plywood and see how stable the box is. i might just screw the lbrackets directly into the trunk and skip the plywood. i do love how much useable space i will have left, gotta love shallow boxes.

Hope you've got patience. Your Avalanche box is way further along than my Shiva. I haven't even bought wood for it yet.

What kind of glue are you using?

I'd say if anything, it may give that appearance because there is no side support just yet in that 2nd pic.

Looks nice man!

well i just put the top on.... not a perfect fit on one side but someone who is skilled enough could chop off like 1/6". or i could just carpet it.

my kicker box was off, but i just used liquid nails and small strips of wood to square it, and the carpet hides it real well

the magnet is alot wider than the brahmas...although they use a triple stack whereas with this sub they used one giant and wide magnet. for subwoofer design, the magnets are better utilized with width then depth. ask dan wiggins, he put a triple stack on the brahma mainly for sex appeal. i forget the # but if he used 1 magnet instead of 3 the difference was inaudible with motor strength according to him.

+1 looks a little small but their site doesnt say what its made of. Hopefully Neodymium and not some crap like strontium so its still pretty damn strong.

kevin come by and check out the magnet if you want before i install the thing. its not small by any means. with some drivers the motors are identical as per cone increases, so the motors look smaller because of the bigger cone. if i can ill dig up the prototype ava 12 pix to show what im talking about. thanks for the offer chris, i have no patience had to start before SB ended!

edit: on a side note the BL on the ava 15 is IDENTICAL to the 15" brahma (15.9)so no problems with motor strength or cone control. but alot of low bass with an fs of about 15.7.

in regards to what? the t/s specs are different. diferent size cone= more air being pushed by the ava 15 when compared to the brahma 12. but they both use adires patented XBL2 technology.

^^ i know. id do a reverse mount for mine but then I'd lose more trunk space.
this sub is aethetically pleasing. when i opened it up at home my mom liked it and said i should put it on the table for decoration. wasnt sure if thats a good or bad thing though.

2 da max im not gonna ***** up Rich's thread talkin about my system, ill pm you

Rich the pics are a little misleading then...dont get all offended, i was just sayin that for such a beastly sub it seems smaller than normal, like compared to the brahma pic gordon posted lol.
