Guys...need more advice on audio

Especially you pearlmax96....

anybody have any thoughts on this:

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Xbp2m43...o&i=113DPX4070

I wouldn't mind replacing my Bose head unit with another double-din unit (in the GXE mount, of course)....plus this has a tape deck (believe it or not, sometimes I have to bust out one of my 1,000 old tapes, just for memories)

Anyhow, anyone used this or heard anything about it? Just thinking out loud, and this looks kind of interesting.

And no, I can't afford a full-screen double-din set.....

hey your pm box was full but I currently dont have the car with me so I cant take pictures, I was trying to find pictures online but came up with nothing. Ill keep searching, but the red on the headunit does look really nice, and since you have red leds to match it'll go well with it

Just a word of warning, Kenwood units have reliability problems. A friend of mine had his Kenwood unit fry in less then 2 months. His old Kenwood also died.

Damn sorry about that...I feel like I empty my inbox like once a week!
Anhow, there's room now.

my question was only if when you change the illumination it is the buttons AND the display are all red......now that my entire interior is in red illumination, I just want a good head unit with red illumination! Yeah, I know I know....sound > looks.....but looks and functionality are important too!

If I can find an alpine with a red display/buttons, I will get it....Every alpine I've owned has been great sound and quality.

yeah I personally don't like Kenwoods also, unless you really like it and have it purchased and installed through a dealer which then you can take it back whenever and have it replaced.

yeah they are red, like crayola red no hint of orange or yellow or purple, just red, because it also has the capability to do orange, green, blue also. If you can visit a local store that has it on display I'm pretty sure you can mess around with it and see it in person.

Do yourself a favor. PM Don(pearlmax96) before you make a decision. You will be happy you did so.

Yup. He will probably tell you what Im about to say. Clarion > Kenwood. So unless you are dying for that double din, go with the clarion you posted before.

(even though both units have 1.8v preouts )

At this point, I'm probably just going to go with Alpine. Had them before, liked them alot....safe bet to sound good and work well......

My only concern is that most of the alpines don't have RCA AUX inputs (at least not listed on Alpine's website), and I have to have one of those to plug my MP3 Player into (no, it's not an iPod)....

The Alpines are only "rated" at a 2V preout. A lot of the tests done by individuals rate it even lower than that. Are you running any sort of quality speaker/amp(s) combos? If so, invest in an Eclipse. I was on the phone the other day with Don about this exact same thing. With what he told me, I will never get an Alpine. Just make sure you do all the research you can before you buy. Youll be happier that way.

Yeah...already had this preamp discussion....I'm just keeping my Bose speakers for the time being. I might someday upgrade the speakers, but will NEVER be running a big system. I don't need a bunch of subs to listen to old-school punk and harcore

As to the eclipse.....they may sound great, but I don't think I could stand to actually look at those ugly things for 3-4 hours a day in the car

So...in several discussions now basically people have ruled out:
-Alpine
-Clarion ProAudio
-Kenwood
-Pioneer

At this point seems like the only systems anyone likes is the eclipse, which I am not getting.

Maybe I should post in the regular forums, since most of you in here are audio-geeks (no offense) who are running monster systems and probably would not be satisfied with the kind of system that will be fine for me

might I ask...where the hell is the pre-out rating listed on here?

Thats actually last years model...but the preout is (copied from site):

3 Pre-Outs (4 volt)

Out of all you have listed I would do Pioneer Premier or Clarion ProAudio.

the 9831 is silver correct? I think that's why I went with the 9833 because of its black finish, I didn't want to wait for the 9835 since my shop didnt have it. Matrix display was the only difference.

Thanks....I'm leaning toward spending a few more bucks and getting the 9833, since it has more power and 4v pre-outs, and that seems to be tops on the "experts'" lists.....
the 9835 is another $100 and seems to only have teh better display, which is not a big deal to me necessarily.....

I take it YOU like your Alpine, though...right?

yes I do like my Alpine Ive used Pioneers in the past, but no experience with Clarion, I like the Alpine because of its user friendly setup, and they always seem to look good. Sound of course can be better, but thats why we pay less lol the 9833 is going for 300 on crutchfield and you can probably get it less than that, because I got mine for 275 at my friends shop when the 2004 line came out (retailed for 500 then at other stores)

I own the 9833. I love it. It is not something you would want to compete in SQ with but it has a ton of features and I have had no problems whatsoever with it. The only thing I would advise against is getting the PAC steering wheel adapter. I hate mine and wish I wouldn't have wasted that $100. It's slow and takes some options away. Teh suk IMHO.

Now more of a reason to get it! But that decision is entirely up to you

Well, the final word will be Jason (TAPOUT) who is giving me the hookup. His shop carries Alpine, Pioneer, Clarion Pro, etc....so I'll see what he says when I go it, since he's been doing audio for like 15 years it seems.....

As long as it sounds better than the Bose and has some nice features/ease of use, I will be satisfied!
