I have an easy and mostlikely "noobish" question.

My bose unit have been take out in place of. . .


Farenheight screen. When wiring it up I notice how much thicker and stonger the wire was for the cig light vs the wire for the screen, when wiring am I able to twist the wires together then coat with solder to hold the connection together? or just twist together and electic tape them (as I did and is working but I have to go back in and it seems to slip off with the slightest tug).


Also My screen doesnt sit flush where can I get a bracket so that it can hold the screen properly right up to the console and look good. Right now its between the metal pieces and lightly held in with zip ties.

Yes, screens draw very little current and dont need a large gauge wire. Yes you should solder or at least crimp your connections, just twisting and taping is ghetto.

Evidently the Fahrenheit screen is wider than the Microvision and others then? Because the Microvision I did in a 4th gen fit snug in between the brackets in the dash and no other brackets were needed. You can always try stopping by your local circuit city and have them give you a piece of backstrap, that might work, and they shouldnt charge you for it.

thank you kpr10is, I went back in today and re twisted but I dont feel safe with just them twisted and tapped, I'm new to wiring so I did that versus soldering with flux, but now that I know that is the better and more professional way of doing things, I will go back in with my solder gun and clean it up.

I didnt know the Microvision screen fit perfectly between, the farenheight almost fits but certain the other 2 corners wont fit, I might sand down and cut to make it sit perfecetly.

 

You have to solder the joints. Just twisting them and putting tape over it is GHEY. Twist the wires together (so that they can't come undone without solder) then lay some solder over the joint. Use Rosin Core Solder, it has a flux inside of it. Finish it off with some electrical tape so you don't pop a fuse.

 

Thank you very much, I gotta dig back in my headunit again to fix some issues I'll solder everything up so that its nice and clean.

Just stick a wire in each end, crimp it down and your done, way better than twist'n'tape.
