they are all 900 mcd.....bright enough to look nice, but not too bright that they're distracting.....they are about the same brightness as the red buttons on the deck.....

well the 5th gen just has an open pocket there, but the 4th gen (99 at least) has a spring-loaded door on the pocket...I thought that would be nice to have (and, it was only $17 compared to $25 for the non-door pocket)...also I think it looks better than having a hole there

The 4th gen pocket obviously fits into the 5th gen GXE dash kit (which replaces the SE/GLE Bose double-din/1piece dash...)

I will most definitely not become a professional car audio installer any time though..... what a PITA all that stuff is back in HS and college I would totally ghetto-rig all my audio stuff (subs, amps, decks, etc)...this time I took alot of extra time to do everything "right" (i.e. good connectors, solder, securing the wiring in position behind the dash, etc...) so it took me alot longer than usual....

The worst part was that the screws holding hte Bose to the factory bracket were seized. After penetrating oil didn't work, I used a propane torch to heat the screws (old trick my dad taught me). That got 5 of the 8 loose, but the other 3 wouldn't budge...I ended up drilling them out! What a pain all that was just to take 8 freakin screws out.

tell me about it!!! That phone is a POS, and is "always" on the charger, since the battery lasts about 13 minutes these days. 2 weeks 'til free upgrade!!! can't wait

as to the colors, The main buttons are easy to change, I haven't quite figured out how to change the buttons yet (there are like 270 colors you can use..crazy). I kinda like the green onthe small buttons as a contrast to all the red....
