HU goes funky when rear speakers connected

Argh!

I just swapped out my non-BOSE factory HU and speakers for a new Alpine CDA-9847 HU and four Alpine 6.5" Type-R speakers.

If I leave the rear speaker harness disconnected, everything works great! (well, the fronts do, anyways)

If I connect the rear harness, I get all sorts of weird stuff. Most common, the display works but no sound out of any speakers.

Makes me think there is a short somewhere, but I don't see it.

I measure resistance across the rear speakers (both from the harness and the terminals) and get 4 ohms, as expected.

I have bypassed the rear amp with the following connections: HERE

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

It should be!

I took it all apart today and tested everything. I even re-soldered and shrink-wrapped a few connections to ensure its good. One of the rear crimps were "questionable"... hope that was the problem.

Connected it all back together, and it works.

(but then again, it was intermitten before. doh)

I'll have to drive around and see. It had better work tomorrow for my four hour commute!
