Alpine HU question (CDA-9813)

well it's not really my head unit, but my friends. he just bought 2005 jeep, and transfered his alpine head unit from his older jeep to the new one. he purchased a harness from CC, and installed it. the radio plays fine, but when he switches over to CD/MP3 mode, there's a soft click coming from the dash (i think). then there's no sound at all.

he tried various CDs but with no luck. when he switches back to radio, sound comes out just fine. any ideas on the cause? i'm at a lost...

The factory amp is hooked up to the power antenna instead of the remote turn on. Cut the blue and hook blue/white to both power antenna and remote turn on on the car's side of it. Its a common thing...grand cherokee probably? or another non-wranger model

damn, thanks for the quick reply kevin

nah, it's a jeep liberty. i can't see/hear the problem for myself, since he's all the way in new mexico...and trying to describe the problem to me over the phone. but won't the harness (considering if it's the right one) connect everything right?

Usually it does...and on most jeeps and dodges and other such cars that have that same harness it works fine. just a few jeeps (usually the Infinity system, or premium system with factory amp) that this problem is common with the circuit city smart harness deal

ah gotcha, so if he did what you suggested about the remote turn on wire, it should cure the problem right?

yup, just tell him to cut blue and blue/white. Connect the car's side of both to the blue/white coming out of the radio. And he's cured.

Just cut both wherever, and connect blue and blue/white to the blue/white coming out of the radio
