advantage of 12" subs over 10" ones?

Sorry for all the questions lately, I'm just trying to put together the best sound system I can for my budget. If a 10" sub handles the same wattage as a 12" one, is there a disadvantage to getting a 10" one?

10" is tighter bass, but 12" is more "boom", if you can understand what i mean.

You will get less output from the 10" sub, but you will have more trunk space. That is what I did. I might go back to a 12" later, not sure yet.

depends on what sub. a 10" brahma will own a 12" kenwood tornado. sub enclosure/design also affects the performance of a sub.

True.

I was assuming that he was talking about the same sub just different sizes, but that is what I get for assuming . I re-read his post and saw that he was just talking about subs in general.

more SD(cone area)= more output and ability to play lower louder. this is assuming the subs are of the same model, same qtc alignment (for sealed) and the same power.
so yes, a 12 is "better" than a 10 if you are looking for some solid spl out of a single sub setup.

Probably the biggest misconception and falisy stated. I would gladly put an 8 against either and get the same "boom" or "tightness". It all comes down to the speaker being used and the enclosure its in.

you could have a crappy *** 10inch, but if you could make a good box for it, it would probably hit harder than a 12
