Here is one from Soundsplinter (http://www.soundsplinter.com/rli_ser...formation.html). I have their 10" version, and it's pretty nice. My sister's boyfriend should be getting his 8" sub from them next week. I can't wait to hear it.

On an 8" , xmax that big would require a decent sized surround and sacrifice cone area- on a sub that small I rather have more cone area to push more air....

Has anyone else done this? I am debating weather to build a sealed box to mount a 8" sub on the factory location or just put a 10" in the trunk. How would a mid quality 8" sound on a sealed box on the stock location?

the right 8" free air in the stock blose location with the right power could yield very nice results off that rear glass- the question is whether YOU are willing to take the initiative to make it work- deaden well the rear deck, drop in your sub and let us know how you like it.

So which 8" sub is the best to stick in the stock location without having to build a box?

You DID say affordable, right? Image Dynamics makes a VERY good inexspensive sub, the ID8. It's $110 at cardomain.

Tony

Actually...I see that they're on sale right now for $93.45.

Well, I decided to save my hearing and put in a eDesign 8" (dual 4) in the rear deck (stock location) in my '01 GXE. What do I need to install this thing (rear deck/trunk is already sound-deadened from my previous 12"). Is there any kind of special installation plate I need to put in that square space in the rear deck? Where can I order it. PM me if you know, I don't come to the audio forum much so I might forget I posted heh.

Thanks for the help sound gurus.

I finally saw one of Soundsplinter's 8"sub. That thing sure is beefy . It seems to have the same big magnet as my 10" RL-i. My sister's boyfriend plans on installing it in next week or so. I will report back.

I'm going to try it free-air first, see how I like it. I'll box it later if I have to.
