Using an old battery to eliminate ground loop?

This may not be the most efficient way of getting rid of engine whine, but isn't it possible to wire the ground from the amplifier to the negative post of a car battery to remove noise? For example I have an old car battery and was wondering what would happen if I wire the ground to this battery while using the positive from the working battery in the engine bay, keep in mind the battery I want to use for ground has no charge in it, it's been dead for 3 years now. Wouldn't this method remove and if not all ground loops?

Technically a good ground is connected to negative battery post anyway. One way to find out whether or not you have a good ground would be to use a ohmmeter and measure the resistance between negative battery post and your future ground point [if its a long distance use some left over wire and subtract the wire's resistance]. It should be less than an ohm. The rear strut bolts are perfectly fine for a 4th gen.

I dont think it will work well. Why dont you try to fix the ground probblem? MAke sure the terminal is crimped tightly, wire shorter than 3 ft, sand away to the metal were your gonna fround it and make sure its a part of the chassis and not just some bolt. Use a self tapping screw. Try that and if that doesnt work then look for alternatives.

your system won't turn on...the dead battery won't complete a circuit from the rest of your car's electrical system.

get an isolator on the alternator and fix your ground. that should be about it.
