HELP!! with alpine mrd-301 and infiniti sub!!

Hey everyone. My sub just all of the sudden stopped working and im wondering if you guys know why. If played around with the settings for the alpine amp but have had no clue what everything ment. Gain, level, frequency, and all that good stuff. I think i might have changed something on the amp to push out the bass. For anyone who has any experience with the amp, it displays temp and volts and i think Amperes. I was scrolling thru that and next to amperes it said "-----" im not sure if there were any numbers there before but i dunt think the amp is getting any signal.

Is it my sub or my amp? The sub wasnt even turned on loud and all my connections are in. Whats the deal? Did i blow something? And does anyone kno if playing with the settings on the amp caused it? My sub just cut out after changing a cd. ALso does any one kno the proper settings i should have this amp at? I dont have the opereation manual for it. All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Frustrated...

Hi. My car wont start. Whats wrong with it?

Thats about the extent of what you are saying. Theres no way to tell from the given info besides getting in there with a multimeter and testing everything out. Make sure the sub reads the correct number of ohms it should, make sure the amp's 12v and remote have power, and ground is well grounded, put a multimeter on the RCA cable while turning the volume up/down and the alternating current will go up/down correspondingly, same goes for the amp output on alternating current to make sure the amp has output. Guarantee if you do this youll find one of them thats the problem,

As for the correct settings, that all depends on the type and size of the box the sub is in, and gain adjusted to however much bass you like as long as theres no distortion.

Good luck man

try swapping the sub out, and if you have another amp try swapping that out to isolate the problem, because it could be anything,

Multimeter testing is a ton easier, and will take 1/4 of the time. Usually for a problem like this at work ill have it diagnosed in about 30 sec to a minute.

To anyone who doesnt own a multimeter. If you plan on doing any installs in the future, get one. They > all. Theyre as cheap as 20 from sears. Mine was 160 (Fluke 77 series), but worth it, and I cant imagine ever doing an install or troubleshooting without one ever again.

I even set the gains on my amp using a multimeter.
