I've only had one Kenwood HU, and it was great for MP3 CDs. It was the KDC-X679, will be up for sale soon too.

Best Headunit out there is arguably the Alpine F-1 series headunit which has a copper chassis and is handmade...retail price is $3,000.

After that would be Denon, followed, by Nakamichi (spelling might be off on that one.)

...but since I'm not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination I am a big fan of the '04 Alpine and Eclipse models. I have an Alpine 9833, and would have purchased an Eclipse, but I GOTTA have my Siruis.

If you are looking for an Eclipse headunit, and I am sure he will chime in here, Don (Pearl96Max), aka the God of our fair audio forums, is the man to go to. He is an authorized Eclipse dealer (they DON'T sell online) and is located in North Jersey.

People will state their reasons for liking their HUs, but what is boils down to is what you want PERSONALLY. Personally, I am more than happy to trade off all the bells and whistles of a flashy touchscreen for a better equalizer. Other people want the 'dumb blonde' headunits (flashy screen that has crap-for-brains with respect to processing capbilities). It's all in personal preference with respect to what the unit offers you between looks, price, processing capabilities, etc...

Of the '05 models the Pioneer Premier line takes the cake, IMHO.

Buy a HU for the features/needs you want- there is no best, its all on the users point of view. I'm an avid Eclipse user(nothing else compares IMO for the price) But a cd8455 isn't for everybody, it sells itself for those that know what they want and know how to use it.

Don's dampening is NEVER all done. There's always something else that can be dampened, wheel well liners, undercarriage, you name it, it'll have dampening on it. Which is why he is the best to go to when you want something that'll sound good, he's METICULOUS about his work and will work on you're car like his is working on his own.

Go with the Eclipse, you won't be sorry, but if not, the Pioneer will do good.

I'm putting my vote in on Pioneer. I've owned Clarions, and I loved them back in the day, Kenwoods are nice, but I thought the buttons were too small to negotiate with during daily driving, but after doing my research, I chose Pioneers - they're excellent, and NO, the display doesn't go out after a year. . I've had my 7400MP for about two years now, and the display is as clear as it was the day I got it. Just installed it in my 5th Gen and it's completely changed the way my system sounds with the stock speakers no less... Can't wait to eventually get some good separates in the front, but I'm going to settle for a good set of coaxial speakers for now, relocating them after I decide to drop some $$$ for the separates.

Good luck with your decision and your purchase
