Ok, guys...Metal needs some help on power sourcing!
Ok, guys...Metal needs some help on power sourcing!
Ok, guys...as the install time draws near I am getting down to the final details of the install and have two questions:
QUESTION #1
I have a microvision monitor and a dvd player. Each unit has 3 wires:
- Ground
- Remote Turn-On
- Constant
I was wondering where I should tap these power sources from? Could I just splice into the HU harness?
QUESTION #2
Can anyone tell me what the advatage/disadvantage is to hooking up the remote-turn on to the amplifier? My RCAs all have remote turn on wires in them, should I hook them up, and where should they be wired to?
Sorry is these questions seem rudimentary in nature, but I figure I might ask before going at this on my own. Thanks in advance, fellas!

You can splice them into the harness, thatll be fine. Wh***her using a switch or not, either will work. In some I have connected the screen to the remote turn on, so the monitor only functions with the radio on.
Ive never used the remote turn on thats in the RCAs, Ive just always ran a seperate one.

If your RCA's have a remote turn on wire included, it's fine and convenient to use it.
You can essentilally hook up those monitor wires to any 12v source in your car, and of course you're gonna want to select one that is gonna have it on when you want it, and of course wiring through a switch is an option.
I personally used my remote turn on to wire the Microvision screen and DVD/MP3 player. However, with three amps, a Microvision screen, and a DVD MP3 player hooked up to a wire that supplies very limited current (meant to turn on one or two amps with a tiny electric signal, obviously not meant to power amps) there wasn't enough power avaliable to power the accessories and turn on the amps...soooo I wired it through a relay directly to my battery (maybe like 12-14 or 16 guage power wire, fused near the battery of course) and now theres plenty of power avaliable. EVERYTHING turns on when my head unit turns on.....
http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....ectGroup_ID=31 You'll want one of the relays and matching sockets. Radio Shack SHOULD have these too or any car audio place....
ot sure if you've used a relay before, but if you want info on how it works, go here http://www.bcae1.com/ (possibly best car audio site in the world) and go to topic 36 , or http://www.partsexpress.com/resources/relays.html is prolly a little simpler....or if you want a quick and dirty version on how to wire one the way I described
85 is the trigger (remote turn on FROM the radio)
86 is ground
87is constant 12 volts from the battery
30 goes TO the amp remote turn ons, microvision screen, dvd/mp3 player.....
sounded confusing when I was first told this, but it's really very simple and a great thing to use for stereos...
Edit: fixed

Then finally, do I hook up the constant power source leads from the screen and dvd player to the relay as well?
I grounded the DVD/MP3, the relay, head unit, monitor all to one place....Easy place in my car was "back there" there was a bolt that held a metal bracket to the frame...I used right under there....
you're going to hook up the power source leads from teh scren and DVD player to the 87..This isn't your original remote out. After wiring the relay, it's your new, more powerful remote line out, capable to turning on the amps and powering those little accessories....

Oh yeah, lemme chime BACK in with one more great feature about doing it this way, for me at least.
Anyone else with a nice stereo bring your car in for servicing only to find that somebody had to turn it on to hear it? I HATE THAT. If they would ask when I pick up the car, I'd gladly let them demo the system and even show off all of it's features...but no, they turn it on and for all I know use it as an in shop entertainment system for the whole darn garage ....OK done venting....
Well, now before I go into the shop i pull out the fuse by the battery for the power wire that is going into the 30. Now, when those jerks turn on my Head Unit NOTHING else turns on. Not the DVD/ MP3, not the monitor, not the amps.... thus no sound, thus no system......Also, the settings on my Eclipse 8053 haven't been reset
That'll **** em off
