My friends Type-rs

Ok, my friend has a golf gti...or something like that all i know is that its a hatch back...

He is running 2 Type-Rs and about 500watts rms to each...
He has a Panasonic HU and a Pioneer amp

His system womped mine. Its way louder and sounds damn good too, which I found a little ackward, becuase I thought that the Atlas would be able to whoop a pair of type rs

But that wasn't really the whole problem... He listen to my setup and told me that he could hear the lows and the highs coming out of the sub... Is it me or is that crazy I know when i setup my system that the crossover was set at 80hz which I was told by a few orgers the right place...Well I don't know what to do now... should I try to retune it? But then of all i really don't know how to tune the system properly so that maybe the whole reason why it sounds like that... any tips/ideas...

PS don't worry the EQ on the HU is 0 and the sub has NO Bass BooSt

I thought 98's had 6x9's in the rear deck. If the crossover is set at 80 with even a 24db/octave slope, you shouldn't hear anything other than bass from the subs. Maybe he was hearing the back wave of the rear deck speakers? If you stick your head next to your subs and def hear mids and highs coming from the subs, could be your eq isn't functioning correctly.

Maybe that was it...Those Golfs don't have speakers in the rear deck...well they don't have a rear deak, so that was prolly it, he was hearing the speakers..

Don't sleep on Type Rs I think they are decent subs for the money. Panasonic has the built in crossovers now and I wonder if he was running the pioneer class d. 1000w rms for a pioneer doesn't sound right unless he was running 2 of those d classes. He's also a hatchback and that makes him even louder.

I'll bet it was just the fact that he has a hatchback. Our bass is all sealed up in our trunks. And I wouldn't be shocked if your friend was using some bass boost. You can use a little bit yourself if you want you know. If used properly and carefully, bass boost is not the antichrist like some people make it out to be.

Well yesterday i had some fun playing with the bass on the HU and i guess he is running bassboost

Because I noticed it was louder and it sounded just like his...but the difference with it at 0 and +3 was the clearity of the sound much clear and alot better sq at 0

its definetley the fact that he has a hatch back. my friend has 2 JL's in his jeep and they crap on my Eclipse, just in volume tho, not nessecarily quality..

also your friend has 2 12's, he's moving more air than you..

he's pushing more air, in a car 2/3 the size of yours, and has no trunk -as you do.....
Maximas can get loud, but other cars can do so better and easier...

If you are crossed at 80hz, no way you can hear 'highs'....he's just talking out his as s , maybe cause yours sound cleaner and more accurate in the higher sub bass/lower midbass freq's
