more questions about a sub box and subs
ok...so i just purchases 2 kicker comp 12's on the buy on get on free deal from circuit city. I am using these to replace my 2 10 inch rockford subs. I have been researching online how to build a box for 2 12 inch subs, kicker gives some info, but i still have many questions. First, in a sealed box, does there need to be a divider between the subs or is it just one open chamber?
Basically i am going to either build a sealed box slightly larger then the minimum reccomended specs for the 2 12 inch subs, or im going to build a ported box for 1 12 inch sub, of the maximum volume, which is about the size of an enclosed 2 12 inch box. What do you think would give me better sound? also if anyone has any kind of plans for how to build these boxes please let me know
thanks a lot

yeah, it's better to have a divider instead of one common chamber. for one, it helps brace the box and reduce flexing which can rob output. and two, if one sub happens to fail on you, the other sub won't suddenly see a large increase in airspace. this can cause the working sub to bottom out, etc.
as for ported or sealed? sealed box will give you the tightest bass response, while a ported one will be a bit boomy and louder. so it kind of depends on the music you mainly listen to.

ok thanks for the advice, i have a few more questions though...i think im going to go for a sealed box, 31 x 16 x 16, which gives me a volume of 3.59ft3, which will be slightly smaller when a diverd is added. in using a divider how does the wiring work? like i said i currently have 2 10 inch subs, and there is only one positive and 1 negative wire coming out of the box (i have no idea how they are wired, gonna assume parallel) how would i go about connecting these wires inside the box to line them up with only one terminal on the box, so i can keep my same basic setup.
Does this all sound like a good plan to you? or am i missing something important?
thanks so much for all the help!

take out one sub and look inside how they did it
but for my friend's setup, we just drilled some holes into the center divide and snaked the wires through when we parallel'ed his kenwood 12s. some silicon caulk was applied to the area to re-sealed the holes. then he just used a single terminal coming out of the side of his box.
