my carputer screen fabrication/install

Sup fellow orgers,

I've been doing this carputer for the past month and it's almost time to install. I have pictures and videos.

Here's my setup:

(Hardware)
Epia M10000 OverClocked to 1.2ghz
Tview 700TS monitor (thing's a dream)
512 Ram
Dvd-Slot load pioneer rom
160gb IDE HD
holux 210m GPS
Sound blaster Live! external 24bit
Ikea Karbo Keybox Case

(Software)
Windows XP Pro SP2 stripped down to level 3(tweakhound)
RoadRunner with BMV2.1 Brush Alum Skin
Winamp lite with tripex vis
Iguidance 2.1 GPS software

So far I've cut the case and drilled the holes for the screws/washers, installed the mobo, installed the OS and got RR running to my likes. Here's a video of the touchscreen in action (26mb)

http://www.petah.org/maxima/carputer/MOV02511.MPG

Here are some pics of me taking apart the monitor and test fitting it into my spare 4th gen bezel

better closeup, i think it matches pretty well

back into the frame

it works! (also changed the green led to white as usual)

Total time it took me, around 7 hours sanding/bondoglass/bondo with a PC sander and bare hands. Not too bad

Ah, mighty Wariow...allow me to pay homage. You were the beacon to which I was drawn when I first opted to even start modding my Maxima, and it has taken me down a long, rewarding path...your work, as always, looks fantastic. I'd have never even fathomed doing any of the work I have undertaken at present were it not for your inspiration.

That looks nice and stock, very clean professional looking job.

I know that when I finally get my whip I'm putting a carputer in there because it's much cheaper, flexible, and expandable than the gps/dvd units out there. I noticed from lurking over at mp3car.com that the touchscreen was usually the most expensive part, so it's good to know that you were able to find one for relatively cheap. Over there, people go with the Xenarc, which seems much better than the lower-priced Liliput (I've seen people post various issues with it). With that being said, what have you heard about Tview in terms of performance, and do any issues eventually pop up like with the Liliput?

How is the resolution on the screen for video?
Where will the tower for the carputer go? This looks so sweet that I would love to do this mod.

I would have some concerns as to CPU temperatures with the case placed under the seat. Imagine how hot it would get in the summer just sitting there in the sun for a few hours and then you start it up. Does the OS have some sort of CPU temp monitor?

The case looks nice and compact though. Is it wired to turn on automatically with the ignition or do you have to turn it on manually?

i have 5% tint and parked undershade, hot air rises so underneath the seat would technically be the coolest place if put in the cabin area. There's also 2 exhaust fans taht will go going on the cover as well, if it's too hot, i'll just leave the cover open at all times

Why did you use the M10000 instead of the SP13000?

I have been delaying my carputer for the longest time!!!

I already have the Xenarc bezel and a GXE dash kit.. and i have computer sitting here..

I just dont have the DAMN TIME!!!!!

Not having time is always a factor here with a full time job and a full time gf. I gotta schedule these projects, weeks in advance

I bought the m10000 with the opus 90w and the ram because it was a bundled package. I haven't researched on other types because they were pretty pricey. I'll look up the sp13000, how much power does it take and what's the price range?

The SP13000 is a newer VIA mini-itx mother board. It uses a much faster processor and the new CN400 chipset as opposed to the slower CLE266chipset..

you should check out www.mp3car.com

As for timing.. its because i am writing my professional chartered accounting designation, but once i pass that.. CARPUTER HERE I COME!
