Some Qs for a newb

First off I'd like to say hi to all the audiophiles out there.

What do you think of this headrest LCD:
http://www.mp3playerstore.com/stuff_...ial/IN-727.htm

they advertise 2 for $300 and that is not a mounting kit, but a whole headrest.

Also, I need some recommendations on a good subwoofer.

From what I understand I would need a box, a sub [or two], an amp, and a cap

I have no idea as to what is "good" in car audio.
As far as I know, the amount of outside noise in a car makes for no reason to buy a high class amp.

I have no problem building the box myself.
I do not even know how much $ to set aside for this...

Does anyone know of a mediocre system that is fairly cheap?

Thanks for your help.

Well for a starter, you won't need a Cap. Waste of money and power if your looking for a mediocre system.

Since you want to keep the cost low, Ebay is your friend. But there are no warranties with that stuff. Or you can go the local store route, but it'll be more expensive.

Some local stores might also do a package deal. Get the box, subs and amp for so much.
Your close to our friend Don (pearl96max) Give him a PM, and head down to his local shop. He'll be the best one to help you out.

I sent him a PM.

Around how much would I be looking to spend just for parts?
I would do the install myself.

DO NOT BUILD THE BOX YOURSELF. Unless you are experienced in car audio and have extensively researched the skill of building a box for your subs then I heavily shy you away from this route. Trust me there is so many variables to consider in building a quality box (Medium, Adhesive, Air Space, Sealing/Porting, etc. etc. etc.) and I would recommend going to a shop and looking for some sort of package deal like prev. recommended. I work at a CC and we run package deals all the time. You can even get lucky and catch some shops runnning free install deals sometimes on these things. I would say your looking between 800-900 dollars for a solid setup. You can buy solid equipment for this price.

well a sealed box is much easier to build than a ported one. less calculations are involved.

godlyone, if you're determined to build a box, check out these links.

^ Ported I agree, but sealed isnt hard.

godlyone can you at least give us an idea of what you are already running, or is it stock? If you are adding a sub/amp and headrests on a stock radio/speakers? +1 to kcidmil about caps and about Don
(and huge props to him for posting recommendations without coughmemphiscough)

if anything you want a GOOD amp to deliver clean power and sound. even if you do not blast the system all day a good amp will own anything found at a swap shop. any mediocre system can be cheap...but you can get a solid system for cheap also if you listen to SOME of us in the org audio room.
