My name is Steve, and I have problems...Upgrade step one...equiptment ****!

I got a LOT of work to do. At least at this point, I'm not doing whole fiberglass/painted trunk or anything, but still this should be a ***** out install in some respects...hopefull in terms of sound quality first and foremost.

I hope these images don't end up HUGE. I haven't quite figured this thing out yet.

First, the "money shot"

My new HU, the DRZ 9255. I didn't think I'd be able to have such a head unit any time soon, but I got a deal I just couldn't pass up....so its MINE Will do all processing. Two ESX 175.2's. I actually have one more on the way and a 120.4. Again, I needed an amp, but couldn't pass up what was dangling in front of me. Behind the HU is a peerless XLS8, will hopefully go i the doors for midbass. Little coustic DR amp 50 x 2 and old school Rodek 30 x 2 that I've bought/used and are now up for sale. Dayton reference 5's which will be midrange, and some Vifas are in there somewhere that I'll be selling. Just wanted to hear them.

Raamat, ensolite, boxes w/ plenty of fiberglass stuff. More than I'll need any time soon.

My "labratory". Some tools, and some 3/4" thick marine grade plywood. This was a total PITA to get. More of a story that anyone wants to hear.

Single IDMAX 12...I'll pick up another one soon.

Ode to my old front stage The ribbons will stay, along with the Microvision, but the drivers in the doors (unseen), and the Eclipse HU are about to go....

Lastly, a nice naked rear deck.

I feel kind of like one of those American chopper episodes where they don't think they'll get stuff done in time. I know I'm not going to be totally done by the time I go back to work, but I'm flat out worried my car wont be operatable???

There should be lots of fun pics coming over the next week. Hope this picture things works

Gotta take car of the crap work first...now the majority of that is done. Doors and trunk were already previously deadened. Though wires were run, I took this opportunity (since I had to run one more channel anyway) to try to do it clean and to spec incase I ever end up at some competition

the floors were dampened...about 3-5 layers depending on which spot. You'll also see, that all the wires were loomed. PITA but I want this to be the last time I wire this car up....

Next with the wire loomed, I wanted to run it as out of the way as possible. To do this, it had to go through the metal that holds the seat on. A little trimming and this is what you get...

Then two layers of ensolite over the whole floor. The speaker wires, loomed of course, fit under the metal piece without any cutting.

Only plain jane work I have left is dropping in that Clarion HU. Besides that, it's on to build the kicks and do that IB install.

Now off to have fun taking out a little unecessary metal, and maybe see about beginning that rear deck install.....

The Peerless 8's are just under 4" deep if I remember correctly. A little less deep than the Adire Extremis. Should be doable in the max. Better be.

Again...didn't have as productive of a day as I would have liked. cut some metal, ran into a glitch or two that ate up some time but will be solved tomorrow.

Here's some metal cutting pics. Boy I need an air compressor. This took at least 3 times as long when I did this to my Tercel with an electric angle grinder....

First a pic of the passenger side kick panel before cutting.

During the cutting of the drivers kick area.

Look at this great huge hole left after trimming off a little useless metal! (None of this metal provides structural integrity for the car.)

I love cutting metal. Once you get started it's hard to stop. Useless dead pedal? Now you see it.

Now you don't!

Also made cardboard templates for the cover between my rear seat and cabin, and for my IB shelf. Hoping to cut, mount, and seal that tomorrow, and maybe start a little bit of glassing, but at this rate, I'd be happy to get that IB deack done tomorrow.....

sorry for being a little off topic Steve, but how far up in the kick did you go when you're feeding the speaker wires into your doors? (i'm having a hell of a time trying to find a spot to drill in my 3rd gen)

No prob. being off topic. Mine is a 4th gen which may be different, but I wired mine through the factory grommet, in the factory hole. I fiound it was easy by popping out both factory grommots (both the door and the one leaving the top of the kickpanel area), then it was easy to slip the wire through the metal and grommetts...then I found the wire round the kick area by feeling/it dropping. Thats the way I do it with most cars. No new hole. As much as I enjoy taking out metal, only when it's really at the task at hand.

Yeah gotta watch out for those wires when you got that cutter.

LOOK AT ALL THAT ROOM BACK THERE! THE MAXIMA IS A GREAT KICKPANEL CAR! It's a shame I have those big ribbons, or else these kicks would be able to be tiny. I'm thinking horns and some beefy 6's next summer..... You always gotta think ahead

Thanks Manny. Those pics look good..pretty much what I have in mind, but hopefully with beefier baffles and of course some modeling clay. When I had my DLS's in there (now that I think of it, I don't know why I did this now thinking of how shallow they were) I used two 3/4" MDF spacers and they fit easily as long as you watched a couple areas of the door panel covering. The ability to build out easily is another thing that makes the Max a great car. One of the reasons I went ahead and got some beefy 8's was because it seems like they'll drop in so easily. If you look at that guys pics, it looks like you could prolly drop in another 1/4 to 1/2 inch spacer if absolutely need be. And you can move those window bars back a tad if you really need to.

Only darn thing giving me problems now is the gosh darn seat extension rails. The things I bought off ebay that said they fit the max and had flat tops (thus plenty of easy welding area) don't fit the max....returning looks like it's going to be a PITA (Watch out for those things on EBAY...they DON't fit!....bastards....x3racing is the member name). At first I just looked and saw a huge number. Now I see they are so huge, they sell so much, that the negative feedback they do get is irreleveant to them...DON'T BUY THEIR RAILS)
I'll be lucky to get ALL my money back (outrageous shipping, shipping back to them.........) so it looks like it might be much more of a custom/expensive job, especially to keep it clean. The way I had my seats extended in my old Tercel was effective, but not clean enough if you know what I mean).....

Running behind schedule as always....Gotta go over mics and work on that rear deck. Don't know if I mentioned this, but I got to see him working on some badazz fiberglass shstuff yesterday, very educational....though today he'll apparently be spending the WHOLE DAY sanding . Got to fondle some special amps too. Gosh I'd love to be sponsored by "real companines"

STILL waiting to get my 8's/system in. I close on Sept 9 on my new house and am hoping to get started shortly after I move in.

Agree with others about what a GREAT car this is for dropping 8's in. I know I'm looking forward to having some strong up front midbass.
