Why is it that some 6.5"'s will fit but some will not? I have some boston acoustics 6.5's that do not fit. I just ordered some cdt coaxes for my rear deck and I hope that they fit. If they do not fit, is there some sort of adapter that I can buy?

Can anyone answer this? Look at crutchfield's site and they list some 6.5's that fit and some that don't although I can't tell why. Even some are listed to fit in the front and not the back and vice-versa. I want components for the front next and 6.5's have much more selection than 6.75's but I don't want to buy them and find out that they don't fit. I don't have the tools to make any mdf mounts either.

It's because some speakers have mounting spots in different places on their baskets. Not always the same = not going to mount in all cars with the same sized opening.

I don't think that is the whole story though. I looked at the speakers and where they had their mounting holes and it didn't seem to make a difference. Some had holes drilled everywhere on the basket and they still were listed as not fitting. Some only had 3 holes (boston acoustics pro's) and they were listed as fitting? WTF??

The cdt's fit fine in the back dash. The tweeters on them sound a little weird. They almost demand a flat eq to not sound "tinny". Actually, they seem to hiss a little bit anyway. Im not sure if it is the mp3 cd I was playing or not. I haven't really had time yet to listen to them alot yet.

I just got a 95 maxima and I called Crutchfield to find the answer to that question. They told me that the tweeter on some speakers protruded too far and would be pressing against the grills. Obviously that wouldn't sound good...

the bostons should have come with two adapter plates that extends the mounting diameter by a little bit.
