I live in Chicago and I can get my hands on a Escort Passport 8500 X50 for $150. Do you guys think it's worth it? Do you know if cops around here use laser or pop yet?

 

Very worth it. It helps especially at night. Pop radar is off by default with the X50, but can always be turned on. I havent heard of it being used much right now, but LASER protection on that thing is great. Go for it!

For $150 you can't go wrong unless it don't work. If that is new in the box then jump all over it. That is half price of what you can buy it for direct from Escort.

It's brand new in box. Guess I'll take the bait. If I get tired of it I'll just ebay it, or sell it on here if there are any takers.

If anyone knows if cops here use laser yet, please respond. I don't wanna get a fall sense of security with the detector and then get nabbed by a laser.

 

yeah they use lasers...though it varies from region to region on how often they use them. in houston...cops use mainly Ka, but i know of certain speed trap areas where they use lasers. do NOT depend on the detectors 100%...your eyes and common sense is still the best weapon...

 

Yes they use laser... I know in NC they still use X, K, and Ka and POP is coming on the scene too... I have yet to encounter laser but that is not saying it is not out there... AscendantMax is 100% correct, do not rely on the detector 100% because "your eyes and common sense are the best weapon"... nothing will save you if you are leading a pack of cars or on the road by yourself and the police are hidden in the bushes and you are the first target, if that is the case and the detector goes off you might as well pull over and be polite to the officer... you can be surprised at what being polite will get you out of..
