Looking to upgrade subs...

Well i currently have 3 12" jlw3v2 . Im looking to upgrade to something that hits a little bit harder. I was thinking about the jl w6v2s but 300$ a piece is alot of money. Anything in the 200$ for each sub would be good. I was looking at the Type S Alpines Ive heard them a few times they seem to hit nice and tight. What else would u guys reccomend. Im definatly looking to keep the 3 12 set up.

I wish you could hear mine. I have a pair that beat the daylights out of my old treo. I had thre kicker Solo-baric 12's in my 3rd gen. I now have 2 TDX 12's ported in my 5th gen. Night and day. Muuuuuch louder. I too, thought I wanted to stay with 3 subs. I will never go back. It was always an issue of wiring as well. I always had strange ohm loads. 1.67ish. @ would have been louder too as I would have been able to wire them to 1ohm and better utilizing the amplifiers output. JMO though.

Alpine Type R's will give great output but it would be interesting to wire them well. If you want to go with a threesome of subs you're going to want somethign that has a variety of wiring options. JL's will give you a plethora of wiring options especially if you go with 3 w/ 6 ohm v. coils. I guess you could get some subs with dual 4ohm coils and wire them to 8 ohm's then wire each sub in parallel to get roughly a ~2ohm load.

wiring doesnt matter with my amp i have the phoenix gold xenon 1200.1 it does full power @ 1-4 ohms. So thats why i want to stary with a trio because 400 rms x 3 = 1200 you know i like it to be evenly distributed. Even 3 dual 4 ohm subs comes out to like 2.67 ohms which is fine with me. cuz my amp can take it. Right now my jls are dual 6 ohms wired to 4 ohms.

in looking to increase output you could always look to the Unorthodox output of

Resonant Engineering (SX or XXX will suit you fine)
Or
Adire Audio (Brahma is a beast)

you could get away with one to two of these and with proper power and box design walk your w3s. IF you do look to go with the alpines do a google for the car audio box and a guy from caraudio forums named SpkrMan, he has made enclosures that peg the needle at 150 dbs+ with a single 15 type r.

also check out realm of excursion DOT com and WooferVids, itll help you judge the output of what your looking for.

well what would u guys reccomend for an enclosure for 3 12 jl w3v2. I have them right now at 1.5 cubic feet perchamber which is what they reccomend. But i dont know if it would sound better in a smaller enclosure

I would leave them in 1.5. As you shrink the size of the enclosure, it will require more power to get the same output.

depends more on what you are looking for, if your looking for RAW Output with a decent bump then DEFINITELY look to a ported enclosure (Properly Ported, Braced, Sealed) you will have a huge bump in output from the subs. You can use less power and get the same to more output, but YOU will have to give up more room. May want to look at using two ported and seeing what the yield is or looking at something else. Personally I like sealed, my last car to get an obnoxious spl i had to go to a total of ten woofers, where you look and people are posting similar numbers for one sub. Its all in what you want to spend and if you do it right, the first time.

I say one brahma about 3 cubes of space 1200 watts and youll be happy or an avalanche or xxx or dd 9512 or an eclipse titanium

wow 1.5 cubes sealed per 12, and 1200 watts, and its not loud enough? sounds like a MAJOR install issue or you are deaf. ive heard 3 w3 12's off 400 watts total in an explorer and that was sick. something is def. wrong man.

well heres the thing. My amp had a blown power lead transistor. So i think it was only forking over 50 % of the power i was giving to them. Then one day it finally went into protection mode. So i sent it out to phoenix gold to get repaired. Finally got it back a month ago but i totaled my car so im gonna try it in the new max im gettin this week :] > Its hard to compare a ssytem in an explorer and a max because the xplorer has a wide open space while with the max i have to go thrughh back seats. When i had the back seats off the thing was heart throbbing lol i couldnt breathe.

i know but still 3x the power should make up for a significant amount of cabin loss in a maxima. also, ive heard 2 12" w3v2's off a 500/1 in a cube each in a 5th gen and they can get loud.
