Audio On a Budget

I'm sure this has been asked like a million times, so sorry if I'm beating a dead horse...

I currently have the factory Bose audio...and for everyday use, it's great. I really have no complaints. I'd love to do some sound deadening eventually, especially to my rear deck. But that's not the point.

The only thing I think the system lacks (for a guy who's not really into audio like me) is bass. So my question is...is it possible to wire an amplifier/subwoofer into the factory Bose audio (including stock HU)? What I would be looking at is to mount something out of the way in the trunk, such as a system like this:

Kenwood 6.5" Enclosed Subwoofer

I do believe that would suit my needs for increased bass, as I'm not looking for earth-shattering sound...just some extra thump. So I'd appreciate anyone willing to help me out, here. Keep in mind, I'm not terribly knowledgeable and I'm not really into audio stuff much, so it wouldn't be installed by me probably.

Yes, its very possible to add a sub to your Bose system. A high-low converter will convert your speaker wire to RCA cable, which sends the audio to the amp, and the rest wires up the same as any other normal install. Id highly recommend something along the lines of a 10 in a box. Most likely if you buy one of those premade ones, whether its that Kenwood, or an Infinity Basslink, etc, youll wonder afterwards why you didnt spend the extra hundred bucks and increase your sound tenfold.

Well like I said, I'm on a tight budget, and not really all that knowledgeable with audio stuff. Let's say I ditched the pre-made setup, and went with a nice 10" sub (single) in a box...and mounted it in my trunk. Has anyone ever put one in their trunk to face the pass-through? That way I could flip down the armrest and have it facing right into the cabin.

How much would a setup like this cost if I go more along the cheap side of things? (i.e. pre-made box of some kind and maybe a 10" sub of some sort off ebay, plus an amp and the converter/wiring)?

EDIT: Better yet, how about something like the Infinity Basslink? It's a 10", but it's still "pre-made" which would probably make it easier to install/have installed for an audio moron like me.

The basslink is good for how small it is, i heard it in Circuit City and that thing hits pretty well, im sure it would be enough for you.

In general, when you face subs forward in a trunk car, you will cause standing waves in the trunk that will cancel some of the output from the sub. Fire it tward the back. You will have better results. For a decent sub amp combo, single 10, amp, and all wires needed, somewhere in the $600 range. You could go cheaper, but you would be on the major downward slope of the quality/cost bell curve.

The basslink is a good option. The small size of the enclosure inhibits it's output. Mounting it is a breeze. You could install the basslink or a single sub setup with ease. Most of us here could walk you through any issues you would encounter with either choice.

I say go for the single 10", sealed, with a decent 300 or so watt amp. The experience of doing it will help troubleshoot any possible issues after the install.

Well I think I'm going to go for the Basslink then. I can pick up used ones on eBay for around $150, and quite honestly, in my position, I can't pass that sort of thing up. $150 for some increased bass is good enough for me. $600 is just too much for me to spend on audio equipment when I'm more into perforamance anyway. Thanks for the help, guys!

Mount the basslink in the trunk on the driver side rear q/p in my experiences with it, that is where it sounds the best.
