Just bought a 93 GXE, and its got a nice looking Bose CD/Tape Head Unit. First off, I thought the 3rd gens just came with Tape decks only w/bose, so this is very cool. The previous owner told me it works intermittantly. So far it has turned on once, and when it did using the volume control was very fuzzy. I am nearly positive it is a short, but before I go tearing this HU apart, is there any other problems about these, and is there a spot they commenly short out?

I know you guys all say replace, but I would really prefer just to fix it. All the bose amps and speakers are in great shape, I tested them with my 90 Bose deck.

Please let me know if you have any thoughts on repair

 

Fuses, before they blow, can be intermittent, or it could be a loose pin in a wiring harness.

Other than a simple problem like that....go aftermarket. Whether thats what you want to hear or not.
