CDT Audio (CL-62)

Rockford Fosgate (X162S)

Rainbow (Profi Vanadium Line) But i cant seem to find anywhere that will sell them local.

MA Audio (MA650C)

DA (M661, D661S)

Infinity kappa perfect (6.1)

Focal (165 K2 Polykevlar)

Boston Acoustics (SL60)

Polk Audio (DB6750, MOMO MM6, MMC6500)

If your considering the Rainbows, disregard the others. IMO Rainbow has very little competition. Especially in the Profi or Profi Vanadium and up lines. There are, from what I have read not from experience, competition from Focal, Dynadio, and others I can't think of this early but it is certainly a very short list. I would do the Profi or Profi Vanadiums if I could afford it. What price range are we talking here?

Run. I will be selling both sets of Type-R components when my Rainbows get here.

For that price range you are looking somewhere in the Soundline SLC's. I will fully recommend these in that price range. They compete with the Focal's at half the price.

+1 on calling Don. He will give you the best price available.

From that list:
Rainbow (I have pro van kick 3-way)
Focal(I have utopia 7w2, 6w audiom)

I like rainbow ALOT in an active setup but I don't like their passive x-over

My favorites include:
Focal
Dynaudio
Scan Speak (Alpine F#1 components are made by Scan Speak)
Rainbow
DLS
A/D/S (old school stuff)

Momos-The midrange is very strong on these with the tweeter being a little dull. The xover has a feature that "brings it together" for lack of a better word when the tweeter is mounted further away. They also handle a good amount of wattage, but dont get exceptionally lowd. Ive swapped the momo tweeter and am much happier with the current results, theyll be mounted in the passenger kickpanel this weekend and should have the driver side knocked out next week.
Kicker RMB6s-These are really just some beefy midwoofers that had no business in anything other than a sealed door playing maybe from 80-250~300hz. That was how they were used in my other car and excelled, in this one with my doors not being completely finished they were lackluster. Great if you go to a three way setup
Eclipse 8062-A good solid components set when ive used them in the past, but while the tweet was perfectly matched, i was unhappy with the midbass in this one as my doors still werent sealed and deadened. While i figure i can just swap tweets easily enough, these only lasted a day in the max and were replaced with the momos again. I tried them again later when i started auditioning mids for my door and attempted to use them only as a midwoofer and still was not happy with the results. Just dont seem to match up with this car at all.
Infinity'sextremely happy with both the mid (Not alot of mid, but even sound and lowd)and tweeter, but had a bad xover so they were returned. Even using the stock locations these excelled. Got a great deal on them

there were more but im tired of typing...

the bostons are great speakers. GREAT ran a comp set for a few songs at the pawn shop, but the idiot wanted 250 and they were used, so i let em stay right there. If you can get a deal on these you wont be upset.

Yep, I recently sealed my doors with some deadener and it made my rainbows come alive. Mid-range and mid bass improved drastically. (I already had them mounted on mdf rings)

What?

Thats the info for pretty much what ive been remotely happy with in this car. I could take you through a long list of speakers that I have run in my previous vehicle but that really wouldnt be fair as they were in a 3/4-1 inch molded fiberglass doorpanel for the mids with a perfectly angled tweet and the midrange mounted in a kickpanel. Perfectly deadened, with no resonance at all. more Mid from 2 10s in the rear and lows from 4 12s. So to give examples outside of this car would be unfair, as Im biased and Ive only had a maxima since feburary..
These would be the kicker resolution 4 inch initially used with 6w0s in the doors, decent setup but not enough oomph from the fours
I would again go back to recommending
Diamond Hex 5.25s in a kickpanel
W/Kicker RMB6s in the doors with the tweeter mounted and angled in the door

and if its that serious
I would say go with a set of usd audio waveguides with the 8 inch midbass kit. Nothing can touch them as far as im concerned.

also the focals are really nice sounding. You could even go with a set of vifa 7 inch woofers in the doors with a set of seas tweeters in a kick with a 6.5 mid and cross them over either with an eclipse x over or run them actively, which i hear i should try...<--thats what im working on now.

What is the general price range that Don offers on the Rainbow brand speakers? I guess from everyone's opinions of the Rainbows; I shouldn't be scared of their name, i.e. a name doesn't automatically equal crappy brand.

I ask this because I'm looking to find replacements for my Diamond Audio Hex components.. one pair somehow killed itself. Long story short. Check the pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/smesser/sets/369310/

I've always liked infiniti they have some great products, especially for the prices you can get them at. focal and rainbow..well enough said on those, i've got my eye on rainbows in the far off future. CDT also get a mention..good stuff there.
