iPod in 4th gen

Has anyone out there performed a clean install of an iPod into the stock Bose system on a 96 4th gen? I'm thinking I can do something with the ashtray, but I wanted to know if anyone out there has done it another way. I'd like to be able to use my iPod without an FM transmitter or a tape adapter.

I've searched through the stickies and through the 20 pages of threads looking for something with "iPod" in the title, but I found nothing.

Dont use the Fm transmitter.....in my opinion u dont get that great sound quility plus if your like me and like to listen to music fairly loud....The transmitter wont get u that......I have a kenwood HU that has a module under neath my passenger seat that i can connect my ipod with a Y connector that has 2 RCA plugs on 1 side and 1 on the other that fits into the IPOD HeadPhones Jack....its really ment for a vidoe input but i just use the 2 audio inputs so i get music and no vids of course....

Don't mess with any transmitters. I got the itrip and it sucks. Get a nice cassette adapter or direct wire.

if im not mistaken, thats what he meant, direct line into the stock HU.

I'm interested in this too, Is there a way to simply directly hook up an ipod into our BOSE HUs? Maybe with a Y splitter? If anyone has done this, please respond.

EDIT:

I've seen this on a previous thread, but yet I have a 96, would this work?
