For those with the flip-face DVD players...

I'm was thinking about getting the PIONEER IN DASH DVD/MP3/CD TOUCH scn/NAVIGATION (saw it on Ebay). I've seen some on here in there sig with the flip out dash one (forgot who). But I wanted to know was...is there any serious cutting of the front panel to get that to fit just right? What where some of thing invloved? I'm planning on have my installer do it, but I wanted to know from people on here......also will I have to scarifice the cassette player in any way? Or is there a better alternative to flip-out?

Thanks.....

You need to buy the Metra dash kit, it makes a space for the single DIN head unit. And yes the CD changer and cassette are all one unit behind there so bye bye cassette!!! Nothing trivial, just your basic install as far as I know.

You will be able to run a line out for your MP3 player, actually most new head units have the control box you can buy (for the IPOD at least not sure which MP3 player you have) that you can control it with the unit itself. If not you can at least run the line out and listen to it and get rid of that nasty cassette adapter!!! And yes you can control the new stereo through the sterring wheel but again you have to but the PAC adaptor. (see stickies) Not sure about what it exactly it will control but I now for sure at least volume...

Actually I didn't but I need to. I get barely any reception with my new stereo, they said it's the way it hooks up to the windsheild antenna, connections don't match up or something, I forget now. But with MP3 ability and a 60gb IPOD I haven't missed the radio much!!

You have to buy that PAC SWI-X box, but you can't use it if you have that AAI-NIS. I have the AAI for my carpc, and I dread messing around with the setup, otherwise I would have dropped the HU for another one with RCA inputs and gotten that SWI-X to keep the steering wheel controls.

What sucks though is that you still keep the radio controls on the dash but they're worthless... presets, tuner and volume just sit there but they don't do anything -- unless I'm mistaken, but I don't think I am. It's a shame you can't move the AC controls up and the radio controls down... that way a flip-up screen would cover them but it wouldn't matter -- at least you'd still have access to the climate controls.

Yes, sad but true, that's the only drawback. But honestly I forgot about those stereo controls pretty much within a day, and as far as the climate control being hidden, yes but they are easy to remember and now I just stick my finger behind the screen and hit which ever button I want...good luck!!!

I have to agree with you there......I honestly don't even touch those buttons on the panel....I did everything from the steering wheel actually. But I guess I will get use to it, like you said. I'm looking at the Pioneer AVIC-N2 DVD/GPS one......

Is there a way to keep the stock radio and just install CD/DVD player? Or are the radio/cd/tape player all connected together so if you remove one you have to remove them all?

The whole thing is one big hunk of electronics... the box has the changer, the tape player and the radio all in one. If you remove one, it all goes.

I had the same dilemma when trying to figure out where to mount a screen... I ended up moving the stock screen down, since using the Metra kit means losing the radio, and I need that sometimes even if it's just for traffic on the AM stations.

hi, i just have a question, i have a maxima se elite package with navi and i was wondering the dvd player thats hidden on the bottom, is it possible to remove that dvd player and put a dvd player that can actually play dvd's? because i tryed putting a dvd in the stock dvd player but i was told that, that dvd player is only for the navi dvd that comes from the dealer. now to sum it up, is there a way i can play dvd's on the the navigation sn?

thanks in advance

Getting another player won't work... the system won't play video DVDs because that's not what it was engineered for. What you need to do is leave the unit alone so you can still use the navigation, and get an RGB bypass like the one some people have installed.

Follow up on that other thread or get a hold of Dominic directly and see if you can get one. He's down in Brooklyn so you can just stop by his shop and pick it up or even have them install it.

One more question about the dash kit......do I have to move my info screen down at the bottom, or can it stay where it is and still have the flip-door panel for storage? I hope so, because I don't want to get an additional screen if I don't have to.

Thanks....

You don't have to move it, the stock door still works, I just moved mine because I wanted another screen...

I've got the non-Bose system in my '06 Max. Is it possible to wire up an aftermarket CD changer? I don't want to use RF. I've read where the 6th Gen comes pre-wired for SAT, would that be a possibility to wire CD changer?

I was wondering if the cable for the screen will reach to the bottom or did you have to mess with it? Do you have any advise on best way to set it up?thanks

it reaches down there just barely - run the cable behind the stereo and down - takes a little bit of work but not much

I like your shift ****, really goes well with the car. Setup looks nice.

Sorry to jack a little but where you get it? Did you cut the shifter at all to make it look that low?

And about the flip up, I just close mine when I want to access anything behind it, then re open it.
