Hi,

I am lookin to possiably upgrade my Apine 9803 think thats it. To maybe a 9853 or 9851. I found prices on 51 to be about 200 shipped and about 240 shipped for 53. I currently use my Nomad 30GB mp3 with versalink cable this will work with the new ones I beleave. Which has better sound? Is the 53 worth the extra 40 bucks? Will the sound be better then the 9803 or simmilar or wat? Will it be worth the money or should I just keep the 9803?

Really depends how much you plan on adding to your system. Both the 9851 and 9853 have 3 pairs of preouts, and although only 2 volt, IIRC the 9803 has 1 pair. But the main thing youll get out of those 3 choices is the 5 band EQ of the 9853. So if you are looking to really upgrade and spend the money, take what you wouldve spent on the 9853, and buy an Eclipse CD5425 from a local dealer instead. If you dont want to drop the money and arent looking to upgrade that much, dont waste your time.

 

So basically my system I have now if fine. I dont really plan up upgradin much. I only have 10" infinity sub, 2 audiobahn 6x9 and recently got 2 new infinty 4x6 in front. and it sounds pretty good can't go up much more then 24 or they disort and sound ****y. I waz just wondering if the sound quaility would be any different

 

The sound quality would be plenty different with that 5 band EQ versus just bass and treble, and it wont distort nearly as much. But whatever sounds good to you.

 

you could easily just purchase an eq and get a much better voltage output than 2volts and offer yourself much more adjustability of 5bands. Thats just me. I would say the eclipse 6101?(Been awhile but i think thats the number), the pioneer half din, or even an audio control.

This will help with the distortino in as that you can up the voltage allowing you to reduce the gains on the amp, and have TRUE adjustability through the eq. Get with don, he has a EQT for sale very respectably priced (Would be for the highs)as well you could look at the audiocontrol EQX to run it all.

 

the 9853 is a sweet head unit...i think that without having your speakers amped that you would be bes off with the 53 and not worry about an EQ...just my opinion. i have the 9855 and although it is a step up....for the most part its the same technology...best sounding head unit ive head besides the 9835.

Just curious but what tuning gain would he have between the radios and how clean of a signal? The eq would offer him more adjustment as well as cleaner sound. In my information from david moses all of the alpines dropped to a 2 volt output and they had a huge return problem in the early models. To me the money back out of pocket, the decline in voltage, for pretty much the same thing doesnt make sense.

Is there a difference in the units hes looking at in comparo? IE MP3 and one isnt, sd card input? Or they offer the same features?
