IPod + SWI-X + NaviPod = GOOD STUFF (write up)
IPod + SWI-X + NaviPod = GOOD STUFF (write up)
Just a thought for you guys with mp3 players, specifically ipods. this is what i did. We are all aware of the SWI-X and it's function. We know it picks up infrared signals and lets you use your steering wheel control. Well, this is what i did. I recently purchased an iPod Mini. While looking through accessories, i realized they have an add-on module for any iPod that has the CONTROL PORT that allows it to be controlled via Remote control.
It's called the Navipod (CLICK for website), by TEN Technology. You HAVE to use this unit. Why not the other wireless remote control, you ask? Easy....other units like the airclick griffin use RF reception. the NAVIPOD uses IR, which is where the SWI-X comes in. what i did was connect the NAVIPOD EXMINI (for the mini) to the ipod, and then connected my 3.5mm headphone adapter into the navipod (it has a hole to plug in).
I then installed my SWI-X once again and placed it where the heated seat switch is located by the armrest. since my ipod is in my cup holder, it's a perfect location for aim. i then proceded to program the SWI-X to the remote. up and down for volume, forward and back for skip/goback, and i am using MODE for play/pause, which also turns off the ipod if you just hold onto it.
now, to control volume, what i've done is just leave my HU at volume 70, which lets me use the mini's volume controls. 70 is a good value as i can go from really low to really freaking loud. let me say, it's one of the best things i've purchased. i know many of us that prolly have mp3 players and don't have the modules like the alpines (or whatever brand) and this is a great alternative. believe me, GREAT alternative. if my camera hadn't broken, i'd take pictures of how clean it looks.
also, some say how the SWI-X works half the time. in this case, it works all the time because the IR is so close to the ipod (6" away)
let me know what you guys think.

i love how you got the swi-x to work well because of how close it is to the unit. i am unsure if i am going to purchase the pioneer module or just use the a/v cable i have. so far the sq is identical to cd quality, and i can play videos off my ipod video through my tv. however, the only downside is that i have to use the ipod to change tracks/videos, and i need to buy a charger whereas the pioneer unit charges the ipod and you can use the ipod on my touch screen.
