Can I remove this?

You know the piece of metal that divides the cabin and the trunk? Is it safe to remove it and replace it with some MDF so i can fire my sub through the seats. It does have a 12x12 hole in the middle, which i was gonna expand to fit my 15.5" avalanche...but expanding it seems like it may make the piece of metal ineffective in whatever support it provides anyways.

Cut out the hole a little bigger than you need and secure your box/mdf to it. That would restore some of the integrity.
