Need advice for Remote Start

I'm looking to purchase a remote start system for a '98 max w/auto trans. I need some pros and cons and suggestions for which systems are good and which ones to avoid. Also, ease of installation. Thanks.

Check the group deals forum. Pearl96Max has a great deal going on remote start systems.

I would like to get a remote start aswell... It would be nice NOT to bypass the maxima security system... and it would also be nice to add an aditional car alarm to my car.

I have a 98 auto too and I'm trying to decide on one to buy also. I've been researching them for a while now. Try ebay.

I have the autopage RS 650 plus. It works with the factory alarm system. And it's an alarm system on its own. Plus remote start. I paid 65 bucks on Iokoo.com. Put in 3 of these so far and never a problem with the unit. Just my installation in one case was not up to standards.

You dont have to hook up every feature of the alarm. Its best to use voltage sensing instead of individual sensors. Automatic cars are much easier for remote starts- safer too.

Here's a wiring diagram. I hope it shows up correctly.

Viper is made by DEI. They also make Cobra, Python, Valet, a whole bunch of alarms. I dont know why they dont just use one name. But it's shady. I dont buy DEI anymore.

Prestige is Audiovox. Would you buy an audiovox radio? Enough said.

The best alarms if you have the money are Ungo, code-alarm, and Alpine (i dont know if Alpine still makes alarms).

DEI has this cool GPS thing for their alarms but its like 400 bucks. And a monthly fee.

I've been using Autopage for a while. I have one in my car. They work well with the factory alarm (which is armed and disarmed by locking and unlocking the drivers door lock FYI) and they are priced very well and reliable.

You have so much incorrect info in your posts its rediculous.

DEI makes Pyhton,Clifford,Viper,Valet, etc. NOT Cobra. Theres different lines for dealer territories.

You say no to Audiovox, but yet you list Code-Alarm as being a one of the "best" alarm. A bit contridictaory considering Audiovox produces them as well.

Theres no monthly fee with DEI GPS. If only for theft recovery the first year is free, each following is $49. Otherwise you can pay for "uses" on a bulk rate paid once until theyre used.

Voltage sensing has nothing to do with sensors. It is either tach or voltage sense, in which case your wrong again. Tach is always the best way to go, even if its a bit harder to locate. Only lazy installers use tachless/voltage sensing mode.

ANY alarm can work with the factory "alarm" system. Which is nothing more than a keyless entry with a horn honk IF a door is opened.

Please have all your info correct before you go misleading others with it.

You're a tool. I guess you sell DEI and Prestige. Or you butt rape crappy alarms for fun. I believe it's the latter. I didn't know Code-Alarm was made by Audiovox. Thanks for the info. Proof positive that you can learn something from a total idiot.

Mister expert. Since I'm the one misleading, please tell me why a $65 Autopage remote start alarm has consistently outperformed anything made by DEI that I, and my friends and family have used. What can you get from DEI for $65? Maybe a siren or two.

This is an amateur forum. I never claimed to be a professional or a know it all. I gave my opinion- Your attack was unnecessary.

I suggest you take Maxima.Org off your bookmarks and add match.com or something. You really need to get laid.

First off, I don't see anywhere in Don's post claiming you were a professional and him attacking you. He stated the truth about Audiovox alarms. My friend has already gone through 2 alarm brains in the same time I have had my Viper (DEI alarm, which has never given me a problem). Also, I believe Don has a GD going for Boa remote starter which is $65, (DEI doesn't have anything for $65 you say?). Oh, and if you do not know Don, he is an installer who has serviced HUNDREDS of maxima.org customers and also from other car forums. So buddy, get your facts straight.

I believe DEI bought out those other companies hence why they kept all those names.

No one "attacked" you, but with your comments you will shortly be the one taking Maxima.org off of your bookmarks.

Yes I sell DEI products, hmm wonder why theyre the world leader multi billion doallar fortune 500 company.

Ive been in the business for about 17 years, dealt with autopage in the past and its crap. Plain and simple. DEI has proven itself for over 2 decades.

The info you gave didnt state it was "your opinion". Further more statements like :

Cobra is made by DEI
Voltage sensing is better.
The best alarms if you have the money are Ungo, code-alarm, and Alpine.
You dont have to hook up every feature of the alarm.

Typically need some facts to back it up. Misleading info when a person knows nothing or little about remote start can end them with a huge headache lsitening to these statements.

I actually even ended my post with:

Please have all your info correct before you go misleading others with it.

I at no point flamed or "attacked" you. Although like I originally said if you continue with your attitude and childish name calling your stay here will soon be short termed. This is baseball and you dont get three strikes. This was your first, the second wont a be a discussion.

Fu(k that PAREDLINE clown, he wouldve already gotten the permaban if I were you Don. Why even try to correct him, its hopeless, every single sentence he posted is blatently incorrect. Not to mention that without looking at his info I wouldve guessed that he was about 9 years old, not 29, with his level of immaturity.

To anyone reading this thread trying to decide, please dont listen to any of the BS going on. DEI is the ONLY brand you need to be concerned with if you want a quality product.

On Maximas, yes, because there is a wire at the ECU that you tap into, which tells the alarm brain whether the car is in neutral or not.
