My speakers are so tiny....
I have a 93 Max GXE, I looked at the rear speakers yesterday really for the first time, and was disappointed to see that they, as well as the front were only 3 1/2". What would be involved in changing the rear speakers to 6x9? Can I simply enlarge the opening to that size? I just bought a nice new Panasonic head unit, and I'd like to use it for all it's worth.
you sure the rear's are 3 1/2" ? the 3rd gen had either 6.75" or 6x9 in the rear, depending on whether or not the car was equipped with Bose. anyhow, i'd put some decent 6.5s in for rear fill. and for the fronts, you can get some MDF baffles made by james92se to retrofit 6.5s up front as well. front speakers > rear speakers.
I don't have the Bose system I don't think, it doesn't say Bose anywhere. Yes, I'm sure they are 3 1/2" and they are horrible. Any kit to change the rear from 3 1/2 to 6x9? I thought it was strange too because I used Best Buy's match system and some others and they all tell me it takes 6x9, but I had the Best Buy audio guys and the Circuit City audio guys look at it, and I looked myself. they are indeed 3 1/2"
odd, then someone changed them prior you owning the car. 6x9s only came with bose equipped cars on our gen maxima. MOST 6.5s will fit right in, but if you really want 6x9s, you will need to make/get an adapter. you can check junkyards to see if you can pull an adapter off another 3rd gen WITH bose. (i suggest 6.5s over 6x9 though)
