just trying to broaden my horizons in car audio. i've only mess with various enclosures in the trunk, but never an IB setup before. i would like the extra room i'll get from an IB setup, but it seems like sealing off the trunk would be a PITA. if you had the choice, would you guys do an IB setup over a regular 'ol "sub in box" setup?
(just trying to see what i can do to the new max)

I had this type of eclosure on a previous car. I was running two 12's. I basically built a baffle behind the seat and angled it a little. It was basically an eclosure with the back and two sides built into the back of the seat and firing into the back seat and through the rear speaker holes. I sealed everything off with foam and silicone. It was not pretty inside, but then the woofers blocked the view . It worked out well for me at the time. Needed to put the baby strollers in there .

yeah, i gotta admit having some trunk space when i need it is nice. if i do an IB, it'll just be my 15 i have now.
when you sealed off the trunk, did you just shoot foam between the baffle and chassis?

It's easy. It's just work. You're cuts don't have to be as exact
I would use a good plywood instead of MDF (I used "marine grade plywood" which i think is the same as baltic birch). Less flexible and more resistant to mositure....
Baffle either the passthrough or the rear deck and seal the rest with wood then dampening material..... It's not hard, as I've said, it's just work.
The results are worth it IMO.
Make sure you have a sub that works well IB...

ah man, i forgot about that. i gotta see if the RLp works well in an IB config...
how much power did you guys send to your subs? i don't think it'll need as much power as i'm sending it now since the trunk will act as a massive box.

Yes, I used a good amount of foam and silicone. I also put some screws in a few spots through the wood and metal.
I did this was back when I was a little green with this stuff. I had some rear speakers in there that I had just purchased before doing this IB thing. I went and asked a guy at the store if it would be ok to use them with my subs in the way I had described. The guy said yeah no problem. I ended up returning them, they were not in the same condition as when I first bought them though
. I reminded the guy that I had asked him .

well did some more digging around and based on the RL-p's specs alone, the low Qts would make it a bad IB driver. but some other dude placed his 12" RLp in an IB and it sounded good to him. but like always...what sounds good to him doesn't necessarily sound good to me...
