how much does your trunk rattle?

just wondering for anyone with sealed boxes facing the trunk, how bad's the trunk rattle? i would prefer to go with a dual sealed bandpass (i've built a couple and they sounded great)and vent it to the inside, but other things going on are going to take up that space.

any suggestions? i wanted to use 2 audiobahn alum 12's(love the way they look and sounded great in a bandpass) in a fiberglass enclosure. most of the rest of the trunk will be fiberglassed as well.
it's not so much that i want a really loud system, i just want something a little better than the stock bose, that looks good, and wont sound like a$$ outside.

thanks!

heh haven't seen you post in awhile shavedmax, what happen to that nice gold color on your car?

anyhow, i have a sealed box with a 15" soundsplinter...and the damn trunk rattles pretty bad. deadening the underside of the trunk will help a lot, as well as the rear deck in our cars. if you like the sound of a bandpass, why not vent it through the rear armrest? that way you won't have to go through the rear deck.

the gold max is sitting in my yard waiting to get finished after i hacked it up to fit 20's and couldnt figure out what to do. ill have it done over the winter, and this one snowballed into a project(the one in the sig is a 98 se. my gold one is an 89)i thought about venting it through the armrest, but im planning on putting hydraulics in this one too and my batteries will go where the box would go, between the strut towers.

At first it rattled like a trash can getting bashed by 15 teenagers with baseball bats. After adding the 220sqft of Stinger Extreme Roadkill, it just moves. Very quiet. Recently I have been having a buzz from the stock spoiler, but not that bad. Not sure how I am going to remedy that either.

That paint job in your sig is bada ss.

you def. need to seal up the rear deck and trunk. like Filtor said, that shiet sounds like a garbage can rattling..

lol it was cool though, get those shorties to turn their heads......then they turned back when they saw me

I've dampened the trunk well, so no rattles really.

Like Filtor, my main rattles are the stock spoiler. Can't hear it inside the car, but it makes my car sound ghetto from the outside. I've also thought about how to kill it. First off, a few of the clips or whatever should be keeping my spoiler on there have come off. I'm thinking I'll eventually get back there and try to replace them (or just drive some new screws straight up through it), maybe with a lil layer of ensolite between the spoiler and car to stop metal to metal contact that is causing the sound....

Like the paint job there...haven't seen anything like that on a Max before...

I had 2 12" sealed CVRS and now I have a single 12" ported 1203.

The rear deck rattles like crazy, the rear spoiler broke off on one side, the rear reflector rattles and the lid rattles against the steel bracing.

This is however when I want to make noise and get loud, under normal listening where i have my subs set you can barely hear it outside let alone rattle anything. I do plan on using SS sludge on the whole trunk over the winter.

80 + pounds strapped to the rear deck plus deadening will stop those rattles

the hydraulics will take up most of the trunk space? don't remember how much room it took up in your 3rd gen.

it took up the whole trunk in the 3rd gen because of the way i had it set up, it'll be much simpler in the 4th gen, so i have room to dress up the trunk some. i was planning in using 2 audiobahn alum 12's. i love the way they look and the sound pretty good too(at least in a bandpass) but i dont really want to get rid of the bose just yet either. i have some time before i really have to decide, but if i go with a regular sealed box i dont want to be making too much noise.

thats what it looks like on my 3rd gen

A while ago, I built a bandpass and ported it through the armrest. It gets loud and I have no rattles on the outside. I had some rattles on the inside but I fixed ALL of them. It doesn't rattle but it does flex quite a bit.

My whole sustem is in the process of getting redone right now.

I dont have any rattling in my 1991 gxe. I have a 10" in the trunk. I've noticed maximas come with better noise dampening than any of my friends cars.

Sealed enclosures make for better quality base and cause far less rattling than any other box.
If you are going for having the most bass out of anyone in your town, one it will sound like crap cause u cant even hear any music and two there is no way to possibaly avoid all the rattling

I've heard an above 145db setup sound great with less rattles than my puny 140 db system...in a 5th gen maxima. i think his name is Chris but I dunno. hearing the music i think has been aided by some rainbows too.

Oh it's possible to get rid of the rattles, just a PITA.
And it IS possible to have a front stage that can keep up w/ loud subs, just most people with loud bass don't have such a front stage.

Think three way w/ lots of power and of course high efficiency speakers

BMW's and Lexus's come w/ nice deadening from what I've seen. A competitor that won his class in IASCA finals this year did hardly any deadening to his car. No offense Maxima gurus, thats one reason that my next car will be a Beemer. The other being too much room in the kick panel area to pass up....

Thanks BBOYSTEVIE for reminding me about the front stage thing. I totally forgot that that could be the reason everyone hears all these rattles. They use so much power going to a sub in the back and dont have enough going to the regular speakers. if you have loud enough highs and mids in the front and back speakers your ears wont be attracted to the location of the rattling and u probably wont even hear it.

Hahaha, I just met a db drag competitor that is local. I am going to get it metered once I figure out where the voltage is going. I may work on the rear deck tomorrow, there is one pesky area left that won't stop. And yes, I still love the Rainbows.

my system is at 152-153 db and i dont have much rattle...but i had to spend some time to get it that way. i put 3 layers of dynamat extreme in it...doing everything and the rear deck and that metal bracket by the rear seat. i do not have a spoiler, and at first my rear deck lid had about 1/2'' of excursion...i sprayed in 4 cans of expanding foam and made that whole air space solid and now she is pretty legit. i also had a buddy at a muffler shop do some things (im not sure what) with my heat shield and muffler because they were rattling a bit as well.

That is a world record score for a trunk car. If that is a legal score, go get your money mang.

My previous (sort of current) setup, I had rainbow pro van kick 6.5" mids and a/d/s px concept tweets running full active: 150wrms to the mids and 75wrms to the tweets. My sub put out 143db and it couldn't quite keep up with my front stage (2-way)
