YES!!!! Believe it or not, a couple of months ago, I was heading southbound on the Clearview and my 8500 went off with X band. I said...'No way, this can't be real', but slowed down anyway..guess what? It was NYPD Highway patrol with a little black box hanging outside the window. Yup, good old X-band in effect. You can turn it off, but I leave everything turned on for my 8500 and V1. Just my .02

wow you are scaring me Andrew. But I am sure 95% dont use them anymore. I have turned mine off because I would never slow down for that anayway, and have not had a problem in over 2 years (Knock on wood). Now laser is a different story. I need to get a laser jammer!

X Band Testing
(10.475 to 10.575 ghz) is the oldest radar band in use today. It is estimated that only 15% of the law enforcement radar guns still utilize this band. The New Jersey State Police, several police departments in Ohio and the US Park Police are the only agencies Radar Roy knows of that use this band as their preferred radar band of choice.

As of the year 2002, "Of the estimated 100,000 radar guns now in service only about 15,000 are X-band."

http://radartest.com/article.asp?articleID=5000

As of the year 2005, About 3 percent of the 100,000-odd radar in service nationwide use X band, 57 percent use K band and 40 percent operate on Ka band. Those percentages are shifting rapidly; today well over 65% of all new radar entering service are Ka- band and X band has nearly disappeared except in a few holdout states like Ohio, New Jersey and North Carolina whose state patrols invested heavily in X band radar years ago and are slow to replace them. But even these are moving rapidly to K and Ka band.

I noticed you were from Long Island, New York. Here is a list of speed traps in New York.
